Gold Derby is serving up Big Brother 28 spoilers all summer long. Read at your own risk!
The leaks were swirling long before the live feeds officially opened Friday night, so it’s not exactly a shock: Dee Valladares, the mystery 17th houseguest who arrived via Julie Chen Moonves’ Time Table, is officially Season 28’s first Head of Household. And she didn’t even have to work that hard for it — the Survivor 45 winner only had to get past Rick Devens and Angela Murray to claim the title.
Sure, some old-school Big Brother logic says winning HOH in Week 1 is a rookie mistake — nothing paints a target on your back like being the one making the first cuts. But recent seasons have shown the opposite can be true. Instead of scrambling to find a strong alliance before anyone else, Dee gets to sit back and let the house come to her. When you hold the power, you don’t have to audition for anyone’s trust — they have to audition for yours.
Complicating her decision this week: three houseguests were already off-limits. Chuk Anyanwu, Jason De Puy, and Rome Seymour each locked up safety during the Night 1 time travel competitions, meaning Dee had just 13 houseguests — who she barely knows — to choose from.
