Joey Chestnut has won the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest for the 18th time, but he fell short of his record amount of hot dogs.
The 41-year-old competitive eater was victorious in the annual contest on Saturday (July 4) in Coney Island, New York.
Ahead of the contest, Joey told GMA that he was “feeling good, I’m hungry, and it’s a beautiful day. This is going to be a great Fourth of July.”
Joey ate 66 hot dogs in 10 minutes to claim a victory in the competition. He won the $10,000 prize and the Mustard Belt.
Joey‘s record amount of hot dogs is 76, which he ate in 2021. Last year, he ate 70.5 hot dogs. In 2024, Joey did not compete due to a sponsorship issue with Major League Eating.
“I knew I was going to be able to get the win,” Joey told GMA. He said the heat caused him to slow down and not get close to his record. “It slowed me down. There’s room for improvement,” he said.
The women’s contest was won by Miki Sudo, who finished 38.75 hot dogs in the allotted time. She holds the record for women with 51, which she did back in 2024.
