Some of CBS’s Most Popular Shows Just Became Harder to Watch as Paramount+ Removes Most CSI Shows Without Warning

Paramount+ has removed several of CBS’s most popular and long-running shows from its streaming library, with the CSI franchise bearing the brunt of the changes. In a significant shift for the platform, most of the CSI series are no longer accessible to subscribers, leaving only the current iteration, CSI: Vegas, available for streaming on Paramount+.

You can find CSI: The Complete Series on DVD HERE or get it on Amazon Prime HERE.

The affected shows include the original CSI, which debuted in 2000 and ran for 15 seasons and CSI: New York, which aired for nine seasons. These procedural dramas, centered around forensic investigations and team dynamics in solving complex cases, became staples of network television and garnered a massive global following. Their removal from Paramount+ means that fans can no longer binge-watch these iconic series as part of their subscription without interruption or additional cost.

Instead, much of this content has been relocated to Pluto TV, the free ad-supported streaming service also operated by Paramount Global. On Pluto TV, viewers can access these shows at no charge, but they must endure commercial breaks throughout the episodes. This transition to an ad-supported model has not been well-received by many longtime fans who paid for Paramount+ specifically to enjoy ad-free viewing of their preferred CBS content. The presence of advertisements disrupts the immersive experience that subscribers had grown accustomed to, leading to widespread expressions of frustration across social media platforms and online forums.

The decision by Paramount+ to cull these titles appears to be part of a larger strategy to optimize its content offerings and potentially drive more traffic to its free tier services like Pluto TV. Streaming services in general have been adjusting their libraries amid rising content acquisition costs and the need to balance subscriber growth with profitability. By moving older catalog titles to ad-supported platforms, companies like Paramount Global can monetize through advertising while reserving premium, ad-free space for newer or more exclusive programming. CSI: Vegas, being the most recent entry in the franchise that premiered in 2021, continues to benefit from this premium placement, perhaps due to its ongoing production and relevance to current storylines involving the Las Vegas crime lab.

Beyond the CSI series, other popular CBS shows have also been affected by similar removals, though the procedural crime dramas seem to have been hit hardest. The franchise as a whole represents a significant part of CBS’s legacy in the crime genre, with its influence extending to numerous other television programs that adopted similar forensic-focused narratives. The loss of easy access to these shows on a major streaming platform highlights the ongoing challenges in the streaming industry, where content rights and licensing agreements can lead to titles appearing and disappearing across different services over time.

In addition to the disappointment over lost access, there is concern among viewers about the future availability of other classic CBS programming. As streaming platforms continue to evolve their business models, shifts like this one from Paramount+ could become more common, pushing more content toward free, ad-supported alternatives. While Pluto TV offers a way to watch without a monthly fee, the inclusion of ads changes the viewing dynamic significantly for those who prefer uninterrupted sessions.

Overall, the removal of these CBS shows from Paramount+ has created a ripple effect of dissatisfaction among dedicated viewers. As the streaming wars continue, companies will likely face ongoing pressure to retain valuable catalog content on their premium services or risk alienating their core audience. For now, fans of the CSI series and other affected programs are left to adapt to the new reality, whether by embracing the free but ad-supported option or exploring other avenues to keep their viewing habits intact.

You can find CSI: The Complete Series on DVD HERE or get it on Amazon Prime HERE.
