EXCLUSIVE:  Two-time BAFTA winning filmmaker Joe Wright is attached to direct the feature take of the Tim Winton post-apocalyptic thriller novel, Juice, for Working Title Films.

The multi-Oscar winning UK production company has optioned rights to Juice and set BATA and Emmy winner Abi Morgan (The Hour, Shame, The Iron Lady) to adapt.

Juice is set in a fractured and ravaged world following a climate-change disaster. A young husband and father is recruited into a top-secret resistance organization, to join the ranks of militia men tasked with targeting the isolated and wealthy culprits responsible for this global catastrophe.  When a mission goes wrong, he finds himself on the run, having to fight to the end to survive in this hostile world.

Wright most recently directed The Agency for Showtime/Paramount+. His feature film credits include Atonement, Pride & Prejudice, Anna Karenina, Darkest Hour, Hanna and The Soloist.

Winton

Australian author Winton’s novels include Cloudstreet, Breath, The Turning, and Blueback, all of which have been turned into films. He has been shortlisted for the Booker Prize twice, including for his international bestselling novel The Riders which is currently in post-production at A24 for producers Scott Free, starring Academy Award winner Brad Pitt and directed by Conclave’s Edward Berger.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled that Tim Winton has entrusted us with his extraordinary epic,” said Wright. “The story is both a thrilling modern family saga and an urgent call to action. I cannot wait for audiences to experience it on the big screen.”

Added Winton, “I’m pleased to know a filmmaker of Joe Wright’s calibre has chosen to adapt Juice for the screen. His capacity to portray the turmoil and the turning points of nations and peoples as well as private individuals distinguishes his work as a director and I’m confident that Juice is in good hands.”

Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner’s Working Title Films counts a library of 150-plus films and TV programs which have minted over $9B at the global box office. In addition, they count a total of ten Oscar Best Picture Nominations and have won 15 Academy Awards, 16 Golden Globes, 41 BAFTA Awards and numerous prizes at the Cannes and Berlin International Film Festivals.

Winton and the book are repped by The Intellectual Property Group and Jenny Darling & Associates. Wright is repped by CAA. Morgan is repped by CAA and 42.
