Chandler Levack’s acclaimed indie romantic comedy Mile End Kicks, starring Barbie Ferreira and Devon Bostick, is officially making its SVOD (Subscription Video on Demand) debut on Netflix US on July 13th, 2026.

Following its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025 and a subsequent theatrical run in the US and Canada in April 2026, the critically praised coming-of-age movie is ready to find a massive new audience on streaming.

Here’s everything you need to know about Mile End Kicks before it hits Netflix later this month.

What is Mile End Kicks about?

Written and directed by Chandler Levack (who previously helmed the 2022 indie darling I Like Movies), Mile End Kicks is a heartfelt, music-filled love letter to the early 2010s Montreal indie rock scene. The film takes us back to 2011 and follows 24-year-old Grace Pine, a budding music critic who decides to spend her summer in Montreal. Her original plan is to write a 33 ⅓ book about Alanis Morissette’s iconic album Jagged Little Pill. However, her goals take a drastic detour when she falls in with a grungy local indie band called Bone Patrol.

Taking on a role as the band’s publicist, Grace soon finds herself entangled in a complicated romantic triangle with two of the band’s members: the perma-stoned, magnetic guitarist Archie and the narcissistic lead singer Chevy. What follows is a scrappy, charming journey of a young woman trying to find her own voice amidst a male-dominated music ecosystem.

Who stars in Mile End Kicks?

The film boasts a fantastic cast of familiar faces and rising stars. Leading the charge is Barbie Ferreira, best known for her breakout role as Kat Hernandez in HBO’s Euphoria, as the ambitious but aimless music critic Grace Pine.

Playing opposite her as the scene-stealing guitarist Archie is Devon Bostick, whom many will instantly recognize as Rodrick Heffley from the Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise, as well as Jasper from the hit CW series The 100.

Rounding out the cast are:

  • Stanley Simons (The Iron Claw)
  • Juliette Gariépy (Red Rooms)
  • Robert Naylor (Ghost Town Anthology)
  • Jay Baruchel (This Is the End, How to Train Your Dragon)

Is Mile End Kicks worth watching?

If you have any nostalgia for the early 2010s era of Tumblr, American Apparel, and the explosion of indie acts like Arcade Fire and Grimes, this movie is right up your alley.

Critics have been generous to the film since its TIFF premiere. Reviewers have praised Levack’s lived-in script—which pulls heavily from her own real-life experiences as an arts journalist—and the palpable chemistry of the cast. Roger Ebert called it “a breath of fresh air” and “a complex portrait of a young woman in search of her voice,” while many have highlighted Bostick and Ferreira’s standout performances.

It’s the perfect blend of a sweet romantic comedy and a coming-of-age story that will make a great weekend watch once it lands on Netflix US.
