For Teyana Taylor and Sinners, Sunday’s BET Awards provided a nice consolation prize after stinging Oscar defeats four months ago.
In a Best Picture rematch, Sinners got revenge on One Battle After Another, while star Michael B. Jordan repeated as Best Actor. One Battle‘s Taylor, meanwhile, was the evening’s biggest winner, taking home the Best Actress prize along with Video Director of the Year and the inaugural Fashion Vanguard Award for “significantly influencing style narratives, and continuing to elevate fashion as a form of storytelling.”
Taylor also received Icon of the Year, one of the ceremony’s honorary awards, presented by Janet Jackson.
Sylvia Rhone was named the Ultimate Icon, while Lauryn Hill collected the Living Legend Icon Award and was feted with an all-star tribute.

Clipse tallied a trio of prizes — Album of the Year (Let God Sort Em Out), Best Group, and Best Collaboration (“Chains & Whips”) — the latter shared with Kendrick Lamar, who also picked up Male Hip-Hop Artist. Kehlani was another doube winner, with Female R&B/Pop Artist and Video of the Year (“Folded”). Other top music winners included Cardi B (Female Hip-Hop Artist), Leon Thomas (Male R&B/Pop Artist), and Olivia Dean (Best New Artist).
The BET Awards celebrate the best in music, film, and sports. The ceremony was held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and hosted by Druski, who was presented with the new Pulse Award, honoring “a creator, campaign, or content series that most powerfully moved Black culture forward in digital spaces.”
