‘Overcompensating’ To Feature Zedd In Season 2 As Benito Skinner Teases Spring Break Episode

Overcompensating Season 2 may still be a ways out from hitting Prime Video, but creator and star Benito Skinner isn’t letting that stop him from sharing some big news.

On Saturday, the actor and comedian took the stage at the streaming service’s first Obsessed Fest in Los Angeles and shared the news that Grammy Award-winning musician and producer Zedd will be appearing in the highly anticipated second season of the college comedy. The news came out as Skinner — who was joined on stage by castmates Mary Beth Barone, Wally Baram, and Owen Thiele — shared that the show will have an episode set around a university right-of-passage.

“So we do have a spring break episode,” Skinner said as the crowd reacted with excitement, “And I was thinking about kind of the time period that inspired this show, so we do have a special guest, and it’s Zedd. We have Zedd for spring break, so we’ll be playing ‘Clarity.’”

Skinner is referencing the show being set generally in the 2010s, which became a huge topic of conversation when Season 1 released. At the time, fans were slightly confused by the year this class of freshmen at Yates University is entering school. The casting of Zedd and the confirmation that “Clarity,” Zedd’s hit song featuring Foxes, will be played in Season 2 helps to narrow the timeframe down since the song released in November 2012. In short, it is physically impossible for the show to be set before 2012, especially if the song is playing during spring break. That said, timeline issues haven’t stopped shows or movies in the past!

While Skinner didn’t share any additional details about the DJ’s appearance, he did say that the spring break episode will be reminiscent of a major disaster that unfolded on a tropical island.”I can’t tell you where he plays it [the song], but it’s a little bit inspired by Fyre Festival. I’m so excited for you guys,” Skinner added.

Fyre Festival was a failed luxury music festival hosted by Billy McFarland and rapper Ja Rule in 2017, which saw thousands of attendees stranded as the event had been hastily planned. Could Skinner be referencing Fyre Festival’s location in the Bahamas or the disastrous nature in teasing what spring break will look like for this gang? Fans will just have to wait until Season 2 to find out.

Overcompensating Season 1 is now streaming on Prime Video. No release date has been announced for Season 2.

If you aren’t a Prime Video subscriber yet, you can get started with a 30-day Amazon Prime free trial, including Prime perks like the Prime Video streaming service, free two-day shipping, exclusive deals, and more. After the free trial, Amazon Prime costs $14.99/month or $139/year.

All 18- to 24-year-olds, regardless of student status, are eligible for a discounted Prime for Young Adults membership as well, with age verification. After a six-month free trial, you’ll pay 50% off the standard Prime monthly price of $14.99/month — just $7.49/month — for up to six years and get all the perks.
