If you ever wanted to see animated animals compete for the chance to be crowned “Sole Survivor,” the new feature film from Jeff Probst and Paramount Animation is just for you.
The five-time Emmy winner announced that the kid-friendly project, coming soon to a movie theater near you, will feature everything fans love about Survivor — i.e., “big personalities” and “surprising alliances” — only with an animal kingdom twist. “Setting it in the world of animals gives us a whole new playground to play with,” Probst said. “I can’t wait for you to meet this new tribe.”
Probst will serve as an executive producer of the big-screen comedy, in partnership with CBS and Paramount Animation. Read on for everything to know about the as-yet-untitled Survivor animated movie.
THE PLOT
Per the official synopsis: “Set on a remote and mystical island, animals from all around the globe compete for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be crowned the sole Survivor.” Variety was first to report the news.
THE ANNOUNCEMENT
On June 17, Probst announced on his social media: “Hey, Survivor fans! I am very excited to announce that Survivor is partnering with Paramount Animation to bring Survivor to the big screen in a completely new way. It’s still everything we love about Survivor: big personalities, funny characters, surprising alliances, competition, chaos, and, of course, a lot of heart. But this time, the players aren’t humans. Imagine a big, fun, animated comedy about Survivor — in the animal kingdom. I am so excited. This is the perfect fit. Survivor‘s always been about watching different personalities learning how to live together while competing against each other. Setting it in the world of animals gives us a whole new playground to play with. I can’t wait for you to meet this new tribe.”
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Paramount Animation will announce additional details later on, including the cast, the creatives, and the release date. The film is still in the pre-production phase.
THE REALITY SERIES
The animated Survivor film is unlikely to have any effect on the reality TV series, which has been a CBS staple since 2000. Seasons 51 and 52 filmed in the islands of Fiji in the spring and summer of 2026, with the live finale of Season 50 airing between them on May 20. “It’s surreal. This has been a 10-year journey,” Aubry Bracco told Gold Derby after winning the $2 million prize for Survivor 50.
Season 51: The Open Era is being promoted as a new beginning for the 26-year-old franchise, with Probst teasing: “The Open Era is taking the massive uncertainty [from Survivor 50] and making it permanent uncertainty. The idea is that anything that has ever happened at any time on the show can happen in any season at any time in any order without any warning.” It will premiere in September.
