This week, Fox entered into a definitive agreement to buy Roku for $22 billion. In light of the massive deal that will shake up the streaming industry, Antenna released a report with estimated performance numbers for Roku compared to the rest of the industry.
According to Antenna, Roku subscriptions, which includes both subscriptions from The Roku Channel and from Roku apps, account for a 4.5% share of the market with a total of 24.4 million subscriptions. That’s up from 3.7% year over year and 40% growth over the last two years.
Antenna also broke down the numbers the first quarter of 2023 and the first quarter of 2026, to show how each distribution channel has grown over time, including direct distribution, and through app stores, channel environments, and distribution through Roku. Distribution via channels environments increased by 37% and direct distribution increased by 36%, while distribution through app stores decreased by 18%. That share of the distribution is now coming from Roku.
With Fox now taking over, we’ll be watching to see if Roku will continue its growth trajectory under new ownership.
