He stripped. He slapped. He sang. Now, will he snag an Emmy nomination?
Gold Derby’s Emmy experts — a collection of critics and journalists who cover television for major outlets — believe Connor Storrie has a 59% chance of receiving a Best Comedy Guest Actor nomination for hosting Saturday Night Live. That’s a 30% jump from a week ago.
There’s a similar bump among our staff editors, where Storrie has risen 9% this week and now has a 38% shot of scoring a bid. Both groups of predictors now place him within their top six, and there will be six slots in this category.

Storrie broke out on the Canadian drama Heated Rivalry as Ilya Rozanov, a Russian hockey player who falls in love with Shane Hollander, a Japanese-Canadian hockey player, played by Hudson Williams.
Since the hit show is not produced by an American company, it’s not eligible at the Primetime Emmys, but instead will compete at the International Emmys. It recently broke records at the Canadian Screen Awards with 16 wins, including Best Drama Series, suggesting it would have been a force at American awards shows had it been co-produced by HBO Max, which streams the show in the United States.
With Heated Rivalry out of contention, Emmy voters can still honor the show, in a sense, by recognizing Storrie’s work on Saturday Night Live. After all, it was the immense success of the gay hockey drama that led to him being hired by NBC’s sketch program in the first place.
During his SNL gig on Feb. 28, Storrie brought out Olympic hockey players Quinn Hughes, Jack Hughes, Hilary Knight, and Megan Keller to help with his opening monologue. He also reunited with Williams during an ice-skating sketch, and the duo introduced musical guest Mumford & Sons together.
Memorable characters for Storrie included an injured stripper at a bachelorette party, a slap-happy Victorian-era gentleman, a cool kid who ends up singing with his tutor’s odd family, and a man who receives leg shortening surgery.
When this year’s nominations are announced July 8, our Emmy experts predict that Storrie will face off against Michael J. Fox (Shrinking), Rob Reiner (The Bear), Brett Goldstein (Shrinking), Jeff Daniels (Shrinking), and Jon Bernthal (The Bear).
It wouldn’t be the first time someone from Saturday Night Live received an Emmy nomination in Best Comedy Guest Actor. The others were Justin Timberlake (2009 and 2011 winner), Jimmy Fallon (2012 and 2014 winner), Dave Chappelle (2017 and 2021 winner), Eddie Murphy (2020 winner), Zach Galifianakis, Louis C.K., Bill Hader, Larry David, Tracy Morgan, Tom Hanks, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Donald Glover, Matt Damon, Robert De Niro, John Mulaney, Adam Sandler, Adam Driver, Brad Pitt, Alec Baldwin, Daniel Kaluuya, Dan Levy, Jerrod Carmichael, Pedro Pascal, and Ryan Gosling.
