Rajinikanth’s ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ AI Remaster Leads Eros U.K. Slate

Eros Innovation has unveiled a £265 million ($355.2 million) commitment to the U.K., anchoring a 15-production slate that includes the AI remaster of superstar Rajinikanth‘s “Kochadaiiyaan,” a continuation of the “Tanu Weds Manu” franchise and a new mythological cinematic universe.

The company also announced the licensing of its $1.7 billion cultural dataset to a newly established U.K. operation. The announcements are being made at London Tech Week.

Central to the announcement is Eros’s Large Cultural Model family – AI systems the company describes as trained specifically on Indian cinema rather than general-purpose data, drawing on approximately 1.5 trillion rights-cleared tokens from 11,000 films and 100,000 characters, and independently valued at $1.7 billion by OxValue.AI, in association with the University of Oxford. The company says the domain-specific training gives the models a depth of cultural, narrative and character understanding that general AI systems lack.

The announcement adds to a series of AI-driven projects from Eros, which has been in the news for its use of AI to reimagine titles in its catalogue, including an alternate-ending re-release of “Raanjhanaa” — titled “Ambikapathy” in its Tamil-language version.

Under its Eros Remastered banner, the company will reimagine “Kochadaiiyaan” — the first Indian motion capture film, originally produced by Eros and starring Rajinikanth – using its AI models, with Soundarya Rajinikanth returning to direct.

The Eros Brahmand trailer received its world premiere at the event, offering a first look at the company’s mythological cinematic universe, a franchise built on ancient Indian mythology at global scale. The Brahmand slate includes nine productions: “Nandi – War of Kailasa,” “Dwaarka: Gateway to the Universe,” “Vimaan Wars,” “Mahabharat 5000 A.D.,” “Yakshinis,” “Brahmarakshak,” “Garuda,” “Kumbhayanna,” and “Mansa Devi.” Each is being developed through a dedicated U.K. film production company.

Under its Eros Universe banner, the company is continuing six Indian film worlds as full franchise ecosystems spanning film, microdrama, animation and character-led content. The slate includes “Tanu Weds Manu – The Next Chapter,” “Phobia,” “English Vinglish,” “Desi Boyz,” “Rangeela” and “Tere Naam.” “Tanu Weds Manu – The Next Chapter” will be directed by Mitakshara Kumar (“Heeramandi,” “The Empire”) and co-produced with Rudrak Soma Jyoti Limited, with a new cast.

Two productions are confirmed to shoot in Britain in 2026: “Nandi – War of Kailasa” and “Tanu Weds Manu – The Next Chapter.”

The $355.2 million commitment covers AI music studios in London, dedicated microdrama production, London-based animation, and U.K.-based model training and R&D with British academic partnerships in development. The LCM family was first unveiled at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi in February this year. The voice layer, Eros LCVM, launched June 5, released by S. Krishnan, Secretary of India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), which recognizes the initiative as a sovereign AI program. The research anchor is at Indian Institute of Technology Madras under Professor V. Kamakoti.

“What we are bringing to Britain is not an office, and it is not an investment,” said Swaneet Singh, co-president of Eros Innovation. “It is a sovereign-grade cultural artificial intelligence capability – one of the world’s largest rights-cleared cultural datasets, the AI Studio that will operate on it, and a long-term partnership with British data, British talent and British institutions to build what comes next together.”

Ridhima Lulla, co-founder and co-president of Eros Innovation and CEO of Eros Brahmand Studios, said the company is building “a new creative ecosystem powered by AI, rooted in culture, and designed to bring stories to audiences in entirely new ways,” adding: “We are proud to be building it from London.”

Kanishka Narayan MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, called the commitment “proof that we can aim higher, and go further, when we work together,” describing it as a vote of confidence in Britain’s creative and technology sectors.

Eros Innovation is incorporated in the Isle of Man with operations across India, the U.K., the U.S. and the U.A.E.
