These States Are America’s Biggest Streaming Addicts, According to a New Binge-Watching Study

Streaming has become a national pastime, but in some states, it is practically a lifestyle.

A study from Overnight Glasses breaks down which parts of the U.S. are most hooked on binge-watching, and Delaware takes the crown. According to the research, residents in the First State spend more than 3 hours a day watching TV and film content across platforms like Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, HBO Max, and Amazon Prime Video.

The research looked at all 50 states using data from the American Time Use Survey, then layered in online search behavior tied to streaming services. By combining viewing hours and search interest per 100,000 residents, the March 2026 report created a final score to determine which states are truly obsessed with binge-watching.

The study makes it clear binge-watching is not evenly spread across the U.S. Some states lean into everyday streaming, while others are weekend warriors who save their viewing for marathon sessions.

Delaware Takes the Top Spot

Delaware ranked No. 1 with a final score of 92, powered by strong daily viewing habits and a big weekend jump. Residents in the state average 3.08 hours of viewing per day across all adults, while active watchers spend 3.67 hours daily. That number climbs even higher on weekends, when Delawareans reportedly watch 3.82 hours per day, compared with 2.75 hours on weekdays.

For the Blue Hen State, the weekend binge is alive, where streaming marathons seem to be the preferred way to catch up on the latest series.

Montana and Maine Follow Close Behind

Montana landed in second place, and the state’s weekday viewing habits are especially strong. The study says Montanans average 3.52 hours of daily viewing across all adults, the highest weekday total in the top 10. Active watchers in Montana spend 4.28 hours a day streaming TV and films.

Maine came in third, thanks to a dramatic weekend spike. While weekday viewing stays relatively modest at 1.94 hours a day, that number jumps to 4.12 hours on weekends, a massive 112.66% spike. In other words, Maine residents seem ready to save their streaming queues for Saturday and Sunday.

America’s Top 10 States for Binge-Watching

Rhode Island ranked fourth, with active watchers spending 2.96 hours per day streaming and a strong preference for Netflix. New Hampshire rounded out the top five, with residents keeping their streaming habits steady across weekdays and weekends.

“Weekend marathons hit differently than daily habits. Eight hours of streaming in a single day is a different challenge for the eyes than an hour here and there during the week. Up to 67% of adults already use more than one device at the same time, which means those marathon sessions often involve a phone in hand alongside the TV. The eyes are constantly shifting focus between distances, and that constant adjustment is exactly what drives the dryness, blurring, and tension that builds up by Sunday evening,” commented Gidon Sadovsky, CEO of Overnight Glasses.

Whether it’s a weekday episode, a Saturday series dump, or a full Sunday watchlist reset, Americans keep turning to streaming to fill their downtime. Below are the top 10 states based on the full data set.
