YouTube TV is Removing the NFL Network From Its Sport Package

YouTube TV subscribers who rely on the standalone Sports Plan will soon lose access to NFL Network as part of a broader adjustment to channel lineups tied to evolving programming agreements. The change takes effect on June 29, 2026, when the channel will be dropped from the Sports Only package and removed from affected customers’ lineups.

This decision comes as ESPN has taken over the NFL Network and ongoing shifts in how streaming services structure their sports offerings amid rising content costs and negotiations with major leagues. YouTube TV introduced genre-specific plans earlier in 2026 to give viewers more flexibility and potentially lower entry points for targeted content. The Sports Plan, priced at a promotional rate for new users before settling at $64.99 monthly, includes a range of national broadcast networks for local games along with dedicated sports channels such as ESPN networks, FS1, NBA TV, and others focused on live events and analysis.

Under the updated structure, NFL Network will no longer be available to those subscribed only to the Sports Plan. Viewers in this tier who want to continue watching the channel dedicated to 24-hour NFL coverage, including game replays, draft analysis, team news, and exclusive programming, will need to upgrade. The full YouTube TV base package, currently listed at $82.99 per month, will retain NFL Network along with its expanded selection of more than 100 channels spanning entertainment, news, and additional sports options.

For football fans, NFL Network has long served as a vital resource beyond Sunday afternoon games. It delivers around-the-clock highlights, in-depth reporting from training camps, player interviews, and specialized shows that dive into strategy, injuries, and off-field developments. Losing access could disrupt viewing habits for dedicated enthusiasts who follow the league year-round rather than just during the regular season.

Existing Sports Plan subscribers are expected to receive notifications detailing the upcoming change and options for adjustment. Subscribers will see NFL Network disappear from their guide and on-demand selections after June 29. The company has emphasized that the full package continues to provide uninterrupted access, preserving all current NFL-related viewing without additional sports add-ons in many cases.

This adjustment comes at a time when YouTube TV has expanded its modular approach to subscriptions. Customers can now choose from various genre-focused bundles, including combinations that pair sports with news or entertainment, allowing households to customize based on primary interests. The Sports Plan specifically targets viewers seeking major live events and analysis without the full breadth of general programming.

Analysts suggest the removal may stem from renewed carriage agreements or internal decisions on how to allocate premium sports assets across tiers. Similar moves have occurred across the streaming landscape as services refine their value propositions. For NFL enthusiasts, the practical impact depends on their overall subscription choices. Casual fans focused primarily on Sunday broadcasts and major national games may notice little difference if they already subscribe to the base plan or rely on over-the-air antennas for local matchups.

The timing of the change, just before the start of the 2026 NFL preseason in early August, gives affected subscribers a brief window to evaluate their options. Those heavily invested in league-specific content may find the upgrade to the $82.99 full package worthwhile for its additional channels and flexibility. Others might explore supplemental streaming services that carry NFL Network independently, though this could increase overall costs.

YouTube TV has positioned itself as a leading alternative to traditional cable, emphasizing unlimited DVR, multiple simultaneous streams, and a cloud-based experience. The introduction of specialized plans was intended to broaden appeal, but refinements like this one demonstrate the challenges of sustaining expansive sports libraries at lower price points.
