Following its swift renewal at the Netflix Upfronts earlier this month, we’ve got some new details on when Dan Levy’s hit comedy series Big Mistakes will be heading back into production for its highly anticipated second season, and thankfully, they’re wasting no time…
As a quick recap, Big Mistakes comes from Dan Levy, best known for his stretch on Schitt’s Creek. The comedy-thriller follows Nicky (Levy) and his sister Morgan (Taylor Ortega), two deeply incapable siblings who find themselves in way over their heads. After a misguided theft for their dying grandmother accidentally pulls them into the criminal underworld, the duo is blackmailed into increasingly dangerous assignments, clumsily failing upwards into chaos they are wildly ill-equipped to handle.
After debuting on Netflix in mid-April 2026, it instantly broke into the Global Top 10 English TV List for two weeks before dropping out. Ultimately, it pulled in 31.6M viewing hours, equating to 7.1M views. While by no means a megahit, Netflix wasted no time greenlighting the show for a second outing, officially announcing the renewal during the 2026 Netflix Upfronts presentation alongside a few other renewals.
Now, we’ve learned exactly when cameras are set to roll.
According to new production listings, filming for Big Mistakes Season 2 is currently scheduled to take place between August 2026 and November 2026. As always, filming dates are highly subject to change and given we haven’t got exact dates yet, it suggests things may shift but we’ll keep you posted.
As with the first season, production will once again be setting up shop in the Garden State, with Jersey City, New Jersey listed as the primary hub for the upcoming shoot.
Season 1 was famously a massive endeavor for New Jersey’s local film scene. The initial 46-day shoot employed over 300 cast and crew members, utilized more than 500 local vendors, and filmed across 40+ locations, including Millburn’s Wyoming Presbyterian Church and Edison Millwork & Hardware. It was also a remarkably sustainable production, utilizing cleantech, electric vehicles, and renewable diesel to drastically cut down on carbon emissions. Given the show’s deep ties to the state—with New Jersey natively serving as the backdrop for the high-stakes comedic saga—it’s fantastic to see the production heading right back.

So, who is behind the camera for Season 2?
Dan Levy is, of course, back as writer and executive producer with Rachel Sennott (Bottoms, Bodies Bodies Bodies) also listed as a writer and producer for the second season.
Other key producers listed for the sophomore outing include Anne-Marie McGintee, Dean Holland, Etan Frankel, and Timothy Greenberg. Meredith Mills will serve as Line Producer alongside Production Manager Ulises Rodriguez. Brendan Lynch and Neil Daly are on board as 1st Assistant Directors, with Gayle Keller returning to handle casting.
While it’s a bit too early for Netflix to hand out an exact release date for Season 2, a shoot wrapping in November 2026 means we’ll likely be seeing Nicky, Morgan, and hopefully Laurie Metcalf’s hardware-store-running matriarch back on our screens sometime in mid-to-late 2027.
