Jennifer Lopez really is an “Off Campus” fan.
“The show is so cute and I love it,” she told me Tuesday night at the premiere of her new Netflix romantic comedy “Office Romance.”
Jenny from the Block recently went viral with “Off Campus” star Mika Abdalla. The two teamed up for a fun video recreating a scene from “Off Campus” in which Abdalla’s character wore a knock-off of the singer’s legendary risqué green Versace dress. The scene and video feature Lopez’s 2011 hit “Get on the Floor.”
“They happened to use my song and it reentered the charts after 15 years,” Lopez said. “When does that ever happen? The music business is so different now, right? Then we decided to do this TikTok together and that went viral.”
When I mentioned it was proof of the “power of J.Lo,” Lopez smiled, “Thank you.”
In “Office Romance,” Lopez plays the CEO of an airline who begins a affair with the company’s in-house lawyer, played by “Ted Lasso” and “Shrinking” star Brett Goldstein.
While the film doesn’t premiere on Netflix until June 5, fans are already noticing Lopez and Goldstein’s on-screen chemistry and the flirty nature of their interactions while promoting the Ol Parker-directed movie.
Goldstein is not only the screenwriter but he wrote it for him and Lopez. “I knew that we were friendly and easy right away, which was nice. Sometimes if you meet somebody it can like, ‘Oh, he’s kind of a weirdo but it’s OK, we’ll make this work,” Lopez said, laughing, before turning to Goldstein and saying, “But it wasn’t like that. You weren’t a weirdo.”
Goldstein quipped, “You’re the first person who has said that about me.”
“It was very easy, we were laughing, first time, very easy,” he said.
Goldstein admitted he was “so nervous” sending the script to Lopez. “It’s all a fucking gamble,” he said. “I knew I was a huge fan of hers, and she was brilliant but I didn’t know if we’d get on, if we’d make a good film together. It’s just a fucking gamble but I’m so pleased with how it turned out.”
