Spencer Pratt is hoping to become the next mayor of Los Angeles — but without his wife, Heidi Montag, his campaign wouldn’t be possible.
“Heidi is an actual angel superhero,” Pratt, 42, exclusively reveals in his Us Weekly cover story, on newsstands now. “She is working so hard to continue putting out new music and paying for our kids’ food and working so hard to be, you know, the single [breadwinner].”
Pratt calls Montag, 39, a “power woman boss,” revealing that she “pays the bills while being the full-time mom and prayer warrior to support me, so she’s an actual hero.”
Fans were introduced to both Montag and Pratt on MTV’s The Hills. The couple tied the knot in 2008, which was featured on season 5 of the series, and have since welcomed two sons, Gunner, 8, and Ryker, 3.
In January, Pratt announced he is running for L.A. mayor, which he tells Us has shifted how present he can be as a father. Luckily, Montag has picked up the slack.
“The hardest part, period, is just not seeing my kids,” Pratt explains of his political aspirations. “I was a really hands-on dad. Heidi and I would take them to school in the morning and pick them up [before] soccer practices, soccer games. Not being with my kids anymore has been the most difficult.”
While Montag is “busy being a mom” and “working hard to be a pop star on the side,” Pratt says he’s doing all he can to win the election. (His choice to enter the race came after his home was lost in the 2025 Palisades Fire, which many have criticized current mayor Karen Bass for not being able to prevent or stop early enough.)

“I truly never imagined I would be, you know, actually probably becoming the mayor. I just wanted anybody to be able to say the truth, and I wanted to have that platform as a candidate against [Bass] to get the truth,” Pratt explains to Us of his road to politics.
Pratt notes that Montag has been instrumental in his sanity throughout the process, calling her his “prayer warrior.”
“Heidi [is] so locked in with Jesus. She’s like, ‘[This is] God’s plan for you, honey, no pressure,’” he shares. “She obviously is very supportive, and just she keeps saying, ‘God has a great purpose for you, honey.’”

Looking back on his relationship with Montag, Pratts tells Us, it’s “fascinating” how far they’ve come since their reality TV roots.
“I think at this point people know it’s a true love story,” he gushes. “I don’t know how many love stories make it through the Hollywood world, and ours is still thriving almost 20 years later.”
