New York City, 1950. It’s about 70 years before the events of The Boys, and Soldier Boy is looking to “fight for the flag” as a true American hero.
Unfortunately, what happens in Vought Rising is not that.
The highly anticipated series set in the world of The Boys brings back Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash as their antiheroes Ben/Soldier Boy and Clara Vought/Stormfront, respectively. First announced at 2024’s San Diego Comic-Con, the prequel will explore how Soldier Boy went from being an aspirational leader figure to a hyper-masculine supervillain.
Read on for everything to know about Vought Rising.
THE PLOT
From Prime Video: “Back to where it all began, Vought Rising marks the further expansion of the global franchise. Set in the 1950s, the prequel series explores the twisted origins of Vought International.”

THE PREMIERE DATE
An exact airdate will be announced soon, but right now all we know is that Vought Rising will debut in the first half of 2027. Note that if all episodes air before May 31 of that year, it will qualify for the 2027 Emmys.
THE TRAILER
Prime Video released the first-look teaser for Vought Rising on May 22. The 90-second video opens with Soldier Boy declaring, “If you’re working on something, maybe I could help. I want to fight for the flag. I want to be a hero.” While his super-powered team members are being praised around the nation as “extraordinary heroes,” the tone shifts as we see gunfire, blood splatters, and a scientist approaching a cow with a syringe. The trailer closes with Stormfront saying, “There is a brighter future. All we need to do is take it.”
THE CREATIVES
Paul Grellong serves as showrunner and executive producer. Additional EPs include Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Ori Marmur, Ken Levin, Jason Netter, Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson, Michaela Starr, and Jim Barnes. Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash are producers. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in association with Kripke Enterprises, Point Grey Pictures, and Original Film.
EXCLUSIVE TEASES
In mid-May, The Boys showrunner Kripke told Gold Derby: “Vought Rising comes in the first half of ’27. It’s good! We’re about three weeks away from picture lock, and then all the VFX has to be done. It’s smart and twisty and noir-ish and really fun, so I hope people dig it.”
Franchise composer Christopher Lennertz explained to Gold Derby that some of the themes in the new series can be heard in Episode 6 of The Boys‘ final season: “This episode had a character who’s one of the main characters of Vought Rising called Bombsight. You hear his theme bright and loud and clear when he shows up. When Homelander and Soldier Boy are talking about Clara, you hear some of Clara’s theme also come through. Both of those things will absolutely be in Vought Rising as well as, obviously, Soldier Boy’s theme.”
