Apple Reportedly Prepares Next-Generation Apple TV for Late 2026 Launch, Featuring A17 Pro and Wi-Fi 7 Connectivity

Tech giant Apple is reportedly gearing up to refresh its streaming hardware lineup with a significantly upgraded Apple TV model expected to arrive in the second half of 2026, according to reports from MacRumors. The new device promises meaningful advancements in processing power, wireless capabilities, and smart assistant integration, positioning it as a more capable hub for home entertainment and smart home control.

The new Apple TV will reportedly incorporate the A17 Pro chip, the same high-performance silicon that powered premium iPhone models in recent years. This move represents a substantial leap from the A15 Bionic chip found in the current Apple TV 4K, delivering improved graphics rendering, faster app loading times, and enhanced support for demanding 4K and potentially 8K video content. The A17 Pro’s neural engine capabilities are expected to enable a more personalized version of Siri, allowing the voice assistant to better understand user preferences, anticipate viewing habits, and deliver context-aware recommendations without relying as heavily on cloud processing. This shift toward on-device intelligence could result in quicker responses and greater privacy for users who prefer keeping their entertainment data local.

Complementing the main processor, Apple is reportedly integrating its custom N1 chip dedicated to networking functions. This secondary silicon will bring native Wi-Fi 7 support to the Apple TV platform for the first time. Wi-Fi 7 promises multi-gigabit speeds, lower latency, and better performance in crowded wireless environments, making the device ideal for seamless 4K Dolby Vision streaming, spatial audio playback, and smooth gaming experiences through Apple Arcade. The combination of the A17 Pro and N1 chips should allow the Apple TV to handle multiple high-bandwidth tasks simultaneously while maintaining energy efficiency, an important consideration for a device designed to remain powered on for extended periods.

The report from MacRumors highlights ongoing speculation about a built-in FaceTime camera for future Apple TV models. While previous rumors suggested Apple might embed a high-quality camera to transform the living room device into a more versatile communication tool, sources indicate uncertainty about whether this feature will debut with the upcoming refresh. If included, the camera would likely support Center Stage and advanced video effects, enabling high-quality video calls directly from the television without additional hardware. For now, users would continue relying on external solutions or AirPlay from iPhones and iPads for FaceTime functionality.

This hardware update arrives at a pivotal time for the streaming industry. Apple TV has established itself as a premium option in a competitive market dominated by devices from Roku, Amazon, and Google. The current generation already offers excellent picture quality and integration within the Apple ecosystem, but the upcoming model aims to close performance gaps and introduce features that justify an upgrade for existing owners. Enhanced Siri personalization could strengthen Apple’s position against competitors like Amazon’s Fire TV, which has leaned heavily into voice assistant capabilities and smart home integration.

Beyond core specifications, the new Apple TV is expected to maintain the sleek, compact design language of its predecessors while potentially introducing minor refinements to the remote control. tvOS updates accompanying the hardware launch will likely emphasize gaming improvements, given the A17 Pro’s capabilities, and deeper integration with Apple Intelligence features rolling out across the company’s product lines. The device could serve as a central controller for Matter-compatible smart home accessories, leveraging its always-on nature and reliable connectivity.

Analysts suggest the refreshed Apple TV will target consumers invested in high-end home theater setups, as well as those seeking a more future-proof streaming solution amid the rapid evolution of video codecs and wireless standards. Pricing details remain undisclosed, but the inclusion of premium components like Wi-Fi 7 and an A-series Pro chip may place the new model at a similar or slightly higher price point than the existing Apple TV 4K.

Apple hasn’t yet confirmed the new model, so final specs and exact timing could still shift as the company finalizes development. Consumers interested in the current lineup can still purchase the existing Apple TV 4K, which continues to receive software updates and remains a capable performer for most households.

The anticipated late 2026 release gives Apple time to align the hardware launch with major tvOS updates and potentially coordinate with other product announcements. For enthusiasts tracking Apple’s ecosystem, this next Apple TV represents an important step toward more intelligent and connected living room experiences that blend entertainment, communication, and smart home functionality into a single device. We can expect to see more details, including additional features and availability dates when Apple makes an official announcement.
