Netflix’s hit legal drama series The Lincoln Lawyer is officially approaching its final chapter, with the streamer confirming that the upcoming fifth season will mark the end of the acclaimed series. The announcement brings a clear conclusion to one of Netflix’s most successful courtroom dramas, and gives fans one last season with defense attorney Mickey Haller before his story comes to a close.
Based on Michael Connelly’s bestselling novels, The Lincoln Lawyer follows Mickey Haller, played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. Mickey is a sharp and resourceful defense attorney in Los Angeles who is known for his unconventional approach to practicing law. Rather than working out of a traditional office, Mickey typically runs his practice from the back of a chauffeur-driven Lincoln Navigator. This allows him to stay constantly on the move while juggling a wide range of criminal cases.
Over the course of its run, The Lincoln Lawyer has grown into a consistent performer for Netflix. It’s frequently landed in the platform’s Global Top 10 and has built a loyal fanbase. Its success has even helped solidify it as one of the streamer’s most recognizable ongoing drama titles, particularly in the legal thriller genre.
Back in January 2026, Netflix decided to renew The Lincoln Lawyer for a fifth season. However, it didn’t mention anything about it being the final installment. That’s why this announcement comes as a surprise. However, the show’s creator Ted Humphrey is making it seem as though this wasn’t an abrupt cancellation. Below, we shared Humphrey and co-showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez’s joint statement on the show’s conclusion:
“All good things must come to an end, but thankfully sometimes how they come to an end is up to us. From the very beginning, the mission was always not only to tell the story of Mickey Haller and his compatriots, but also to give that story a proper conclusion. And while it is of course bittersweet, it’s also an amazing opportunity to bring this adventure to a close and perhaps chart a new course for some of our characters into the future.
We are immensely grateful to Netflix and A+E Studios for the opportunity to land this plane the right way. But most of all, we are grateful to the fans all around the world for watching and supporting the show. We promise you, we are right now building a final season that will provide the satisfying finale Mickey Haller deserves. We can’t wait to share it with you!”
Honestly, it makes no sense for The Lincoln Lawyer season 5 to be the show’s final season. There are eight novels in the book series, and only four have been adapted so far. Season 5 will adapt Resurrection Walk, the seventh book in Connelly’s The Lincoln Lawyer series. That leaves three more novels that haven’t been fully adapted yet, which immediately raises questions about why the series is ending now rather than continuing to explore Mickey’s broader story from the books.
With so much source material still available, it feels like there is still plenty of room for additional seasons, especially given how well the show has performed for Netflix since its debut. But I guess we’ll just have to deal with it. The good news is that, based on Humphrey and Rodriguez’s statement, it looks like we don’t have to worry about a poorly handled ending. So that’s something to take some comfort in.
The cameras are currently rolling on The Lincoln Lawyer season 5 in Los Angeles. The now-final installment will consist of 10 episodes like previous seasons. It centers around Mickey, who discovers that he has a half-sister he never knew existed. She brings him a case that involves helping free a woman who was wrongly convicted of murder.
Garcia-Rulfo returns as Mickey, while Becki Newton, Jazz Raycole, Angus Sampson, Neve Campbell, Krista Warner, Angelica Maria, Gigi Zumbado, and Cobie Smulders all return to their respective roles as well.
