Another week, another serving of awards-flavored corn puddin’ for Schmigadoon! The Broadway version of the Apple TV series led the field at the 2026 Dorian Theater Awards, hosted by GALECA, the Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics. Schmigadoon! received nine nominations with The Lost Boys coming in close behind with eight. Both shows were the most-nominated productions from the 2025-26 Broadway season when Tony nominees were unveiled on May 5.
The Dorian nods for Schmigadoon! included bids for performers Sara Chase, Ana Gasteyer, and Max Clayton, along with Best Musical and Best LGBTQ Broadway Production. Meanwhile, The Lost Boys managed to squeeze three acting nominees into the gender neutral Outstanding Featured Performance in a Broadway Musical category: Shoshana Bean, Ali Louis Bourzgui, and Benjamin Pajak.
Because Dorian voters had previously bestowed Titanique and Cats: The Jellicle Ball with their Outstanding Off-Broadway Production honor in 2023 and 2025, respectively, only new elements were eligible for his year’s kudos. But both shows still displayed impressive strength. Olivier-winning Titanique player Layton Williams muscled his way into Featured Performance in a Broadway Musical and his signature production number — a rousing rendition of Tina Turner’s “River Deep, Mountain High” — was nominated for the Dorian’s unique Broadway Showstopper Award.

Cats: The Jellicle Ball pounced on that category as well with three nominated songs: “Memory,” “Skimbleshanks The Railway Cat,” and “Songs of the Jellicles and the Jellicle Ball.” Some pundits have wondered if momentum in the Tony race for Musical Revival is shifting towards Ragtime after Cats only managed one acting nominee for André De Shields, who previously won a Dorian Theater Award for playing Old Deuteronomy. But The Jellicle Ball clearly remains a major threat if it could knock Ragtime‘s many emotional songs out of the Showstopper category.
Junior LaBeija may not have earned a Tony nomination for his portrayal of Gus the Theatre Cat in The Jellicle Ball, but the ballroom icon is nominated for the Dorian’s LGBTQ Theater Trailblazer award. The “opulent” emcee finds himself in the company of such Broadway heavy hitters as The Lost Boys and Queen of Versailles director Michael Arden, Death of a Salesman star Nathan Lane, Salesman and Little Bear Ridge Road director Joe Mantello, and Rocky Horror Show director Sam Pinkleton. The fact that two creatives from Death of a Salesman are up for this honor indicates it will be a dominant player at the Tony Awards.
In the off-Broadway categories, Jordan Tannahill’s radical new play Prince Faggot earned seven nominations. The hit show was nominated in every category for which it was eligible, including a writing bid for Tannahill and three acting nominations for John McRea, K. Todd Freeman, and David Greenspan.
Winners of the 2026 Dorian Theater Awards will be announced on Monday, June 1. This also marks the beginning of LGBTQ Pride Month and the final days of Tony voting, making the Dorians the last set of winners many Tony voters will see before they submit their ballots.
