Stranger Things may be over, but things over at Netflix aren’t getting more normal any time soon.
That’s because the Matt and Ross Duffer are back at the streamer, this time executive producing a series from creators Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews in the vein of their massive hits — just a little older and wiser.
Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming Netflix mystery series, beginning with the trailer that dropped today.
What’s it about?
The Duffers offered a concise pitch for The Boroughs in the Netflix article featuring the first look at the series. “While the characters are a little older than the kids in Stranger Things — they ride golf carts instead of bikes — the spirit is very much the same,” they said.

Beyond that, we know that at the center of the story will be Sam Cooper (played by Alfred Molina), a recent widower who encounters some otherworldly monsters in a “seemingly perfect retirement community.” It will be up to him and his new group of golden-years friends to save the day.
Who stars in it?
Suffice it to say that the cast is stacked. Joining Molina is Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Clarke Peters, Denis O’Hare, and Bill Pullman.

When does it premiere?
All episodes of The Boroughs will begin streaming on Netflix on May 21.

What are its awards chances?
Netflix plans on pushing the show for the Emmys in the drama categories alongside Stranger Things. Considering the caliber of the talent involved — including an Oscar winner in Davis — if The Boroughs lands with audiences, expect acting nominations to follow.
This article was originally published on Feb. 26, updated on April 13 with the teaser and on May 5 with the trailer.
