The Boys has dropped a major bomb: the series finale is coming to movie theaters.
Gold Derby has confirmed that Prime Video‘s anti-superhero show is releasing its last episode ever in theaters using 4DX technology. “In two weeks, we’re going out with a bang,” the show posted on X. “Literally, because ya might vibrate watchin’ the series finale in 4DX. Fans who can’t make it to the multiplex on May 19 will still be able to watch the series finale from the comfort of their own home. It’s scheduled for a May 20 release on Prime Video.

“I’ve always thought that the way to see this show is on a big, huge screen,” Nathan Mitchell, who plays Black Noir, tells Gold Derby exclusively about the news. “Eric [Kripke, the showrunner] would always have screenings for us before the season premiered, where we got to watch Episodes 1 and 2. We’d be in a theater and see it, and it would just blow our minds. So I’m really excited that the fans are gonna get to see that. That’s gonna be so special. I’m so happy getting to share the finale with people that way.”
The finale will be releasd in 4DX theaters in the United States and Canada, including locations at Regal, AMC, B&B, Marcus, Cineplex, Cinema West, Cinepolis, and Regency. Fans can reserve seats with the purchase of a concession voucher, redeemable for concessions the day of the screening. Buy tickets here.

THE PLOT

The fifth season jumps straight into a world completely dominated by the villainous Homelander and his dangerous acolytes — some of whom were seen in Season 2 of spin-off series Gen V. The Boys team members are scattered around the country, with Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie finding themselves locked up in a “Freedom Camp,” while Annie struggles to organize a fight against the powerful Supe forces. Meanwhile, Butcher reappears, and he’s ready to unleash a virus capable of eliminating every Supe on the planet, setting off events that will change the world forever.
THE TRAILERS
“My power is absolute, at heights no one’s even dreamed of,” Homelander declares at the top the 2-minute, 41-second trailer released on March 5. The super-villain teases a “bigger destiny” that appears to involve bringing back his father, Soldier Boy. After quickly denying that it’s an “incest thing,” Homelander reveals, “We need to prepare America for my ascension. … I offer oblivion.” At the end of the video, Homelander stifles a chuckle as he is seen casually hanging out in the Oval Office.
On Dec. 6, the cast and showrunner gave the crowd at CCXP Brazil their first look at the final chapter with the official teaser. In the 2-minute video, the good guys embark on a desperate, last-ditch effort to survive the conflict, with Mother’s Milk declaring, “We are dead men walking.” Despite the hopelessness, Butcher rallies the team for “one last go,” vowing to see the job through, “no matter the cost.” Ooo, is it April yet?

The series, based on the comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Eric Kripke is the showrunner and developer, and serves as an executive producer alongside Ennis, Robertson, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, and more.
