HBO’s most iconic comedy is being pulled from Netflix this summer

For a lot of us, summer is the time that we kick back and binge-watch a long list of shows. Whether it’s the recent releases that we missed among the push and pull of daily life or the throwbacks hits that we managed to miss, there’s nothing like a television speed run in the summer. If you were saving Sex and the City to watch on Netflix this summer, you might want to rethink your plans.

Ahead of Netflix’s formal release and removal plans for June 2026, What’s on Netflix shared what we can expect from the streaming service in the coming weeks. There’s bad news when it comes to Sex and the City on Netflix as the iconic HBO series is set to be removed from the streamer this summer, officially ending its short and temporary time on a second streaming service.

Sex and the City leaving Netflix in June 2026

However, this shouldn’t come as too much of a shock to Sex and the City fans. The show’s time on Netflix was always meant to be limited, just like the other HBO shows that landed on Netflix beforehand. Netflix struck up a deal with HBO to acquire shows like Insecure, Ballers, Band of Brothers, and more for a short period of time. For Sex and the City, that time has ended.

All six seasons of Sex and the City will be removed from Netflix on June 30, bringing an end to the show’s two-year run on the streamer. The series first landed on Netflix back in 2024, and at the time, we knew the terms of the deal entailed each HBO show would be available on the platform for two years. Like clockwork, those two years have expired for Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha.

Obviously, Sex and the City leaving Netflix isn’t ideal for superfans of the show, especially if you happen to be a fan of the show without a subscription to HBO Max. The series will continue to be available to stream on HBO Max indefinitely, no matter where else it might land. But now that its time on Netflix has concluded, it could be unlikely that HBO will drop the show anywhere else soon.

The longevity of Sex and the City makes it one of the most appealing titles for a secondary streamer to snag the rights to. Over the years, Netflix has streamed the show’s continuation movie and the preceding sequel, but this marked the first time the complete series made its way to the streamer. To date, the sequel series And Just Like That has only been available on HBO Max.

Alongside How to Make It in America, the romantic comedy series is the last remaining HBO original series left on Netflix. For the most part, the partnership between the streamer and the cable network proved successful as most of the series from the cabler’s library that were added found added success. Sex and the City’s legacy and enduring popularity was a no brainer, though.

Even though the show’s official page on Netflix isn’t currently displaying a removal notice as of May 5, it’s not likely that the license will be renewed. The complete series will depart on the last day of June. Come July, the most glamorous fictional group of women in New York will no longer be on Netflix. Make sure to sneak in one last binge-watch before it’s too late!
