Netflix is adding a new film starring a Stranger Things favorite in May 2026

Netflix is gearing up for another major streaming drop in May 2026, and this time it comes with a familiar face for Stranger Things fans. The streaming giant is set to add a new film starring one of the talented actors from the hit Netflix series, and we’re not surprised by its upcoming addition at all!

While the movie isn’t an original Netflix production, its impending arrival on the platform is already generating attention thanks to its cast, its theatrical run earlier this year, and the growing anticipation of how it will perform once it becomes widely accessible to streaming audiences. Get ready because Goat is coming to Netflix very soon!

Goat starring Caleb McLaughlin will be released on Netflix in May 2026

We knew Goat would eventually be coming to Netflix because of the streamer’s Pay-1 licensing deal with Sony, but we thought it would land sometime in June. The streaming giant has officially confirmed that the animated movie will be released on the platform on Thursday, May 14, 2026. That’s basically an entire month earlier than expected, but we’re not complaining!

You can even check the movie’s title page on Netflix, where it lists a May 14 release date. While it’s unknown what time exactly Goat will drop on the platform, we could be looking at a release at 12:00 a.m. PT/3:00 a.m. ET. Netflix typically releases new content at this time. But again, this is just speculation.

Now that you know when Goat is coming to Netflix, let’s get into what the movie is all about. For starters, the film was directed by Tyree Dillihay from a screenplay co-written by Aaron Buchsbaum and Teddy Riley. It hit theaters back in February 2026 and was a solid success at the box office. It managed to make $191 million worldwide, and it received generally positive reviews from critics. It even currently holds a 93% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Goat is an animated sports comedy flick set in a vibrant, high-energy world where animals compete in a futuristic professional sport known as roarball. The film follows an unlikely underdog who dreams of rising through the ranks of this brutal and fast-paced competition, despite being far from the typical build of a professional athlete in this universe.

We follow Will Harris, a small goat with big dreams of becoming one of the greatest roarball players of all time. In a league dominated by massive, physically powerful animals, Will is constantly overlooked and underestimated. From the very beginning, he is seen as someone who doesn’t belong in the high-stakes world of professional sports.

But that’s exactly where his journey begins. He gets the opportunity to play for his favorite professional team, and once he steps into that world, reality hits fast. Caleb McLaughlin, who is best known for playing Lucas Sinclair in Stranger Things, voices Will. He’s joined in the voice cast by many other gifted actors such as Gabrielle Union, Aaron Pierre, Nicola Coughlan, David Harbour, Nick Kroll, Jenifer Lewis, Patton Oswalt, etc.

Below, we shared the exciting and colorful trailer for Goat.

For fans of McLaughlin, animated sports films, or underdog stories in general, this is one release worth keeping an eye on when it arrives on Netflix in May 2026!
