There’s a surprising amount of new episodes tonight (April 30) as many of your favorite shows are back from hiatus.
If you find yourself on ABC, you’ll be met by new installments of 9-1-1, 9-1-1: Nashville, and Grey’s Anatomy. Over on NBC, it’s two hours of Law & Order followed by the penultimate Season 2 episode of The Hunting Party.
Finally, CBS has three new episodes of their Thursday night staples — Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Ghosts, and Elsbeth — but, unfortunately, Matlock isn’t airing a new episode.
The second season finale aired last week on CBS, so the show is officially on break. Has Matlock been renewed for Season 3? When will Matlock return with new episodes? Here’s everything you need to know.

Is Matlock On Tonight (April 30)?
Nope. The Season 2 finale premiered Thursday, April 23, on CBS.
The network’s primetime lineup tonight consists of new episodes of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Ghosts (8:30 p.m. ET), and Elsbeth (9:00 p.m. ET), followed by a rerun of Elsbeth at 10:00 p.m. ET.
Will There Be a Matlock Season 3?
Yes! Matlock has been renewed for Season 3!
When Does Matlock Return With New Episodes?
Unfortunately, the third season isn’t on CBS’ 2026 fall schedule. Matlock is slated to return in 2027, a decision that was made by showrunner Jennie Snyder.
“I asked for it with the network. We had a talk,” showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman told TV Insider about the 2027 premiere date. “I just feel like we had so much stuff to think about because we really landed the plane on this, and we really thought that was important because we didn’t want to keep dragging out the same story, and the characters have to get to someplace real emotionally. So we really, when we took this two-hour finale and really paid a lot of things off, what came with that was I’m going to need time after that to really build the architecture so that we have it for the next seasons. I’m excited about it, but I am also grateful because we needed a little bit of time.”
There’s no official premiere date, but we’d guess February or March of 2027.
