The Hacks farewell tour will be making a beach stop.
Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello, and Jen Statsky, the Emmy-winning brain trust behind the Jean Smart-powered HBO Max comedy, will receive the Showrunner of the Year Award at the second annual Newport Beach TV Fest, organizers announced Tuesday. Hacks is in the midst of its fifth and final season, which will end on May 28, just before the Newport TV fest kicks off.
Aside from the Hacks team, the ensembles from Landman and Shrinking will be honored at the event, which runs June 4-7. Now in its second year, the TV fest is looking to establish itself on the Emmy circuit, similar to how its parent, the Newport Beach Film Festival, has become a stop along the road to Oscar.
Here’s a look at the initial list of Newport TV Fest honorees:
- Andy Cohen will receive the Variety Creative Impact in Television Award on June 5.
- Hacks showrunners Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello, and Jen Statsky will receive the Showrunner of the Year Award on June 6.
- Landman will receive the Outstanding Drama Ensemble Award on June 6. Attendees will include Billy Bob Thornton, Ali Larter, Andy Garcia, and Michelle Randolph.
- Sebastian Maniscalco will receive the Standup Comedy Special of the Year on June 7.
- Shrinking will receive the Outstanding Comedy Ensemble Award on June 7. Attendees will include Jason Segel, Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Michael Urie, Luke Tennie, Lukita Maxwell, and Ted McGinley.
