Finished with the world of Wicked — perhaps, for good — Ariana Grande has returned to her old job as a three-time Grammy-winning pop star.
Grande has officially confirmed rumors that new music is on the way. Petal, the singer’s eighth studio album, will drop on July 31. The new record, which is her first since 2024’s Eternal Sunshine earned three Grammy nominations — including Best Pop Vocal Album — is described as “something that is full of life and growing through the cracks of something cold and hard and challenging.”
Previously, the Oscar nominee shared a series of photos of herself seemingly working on new music to her Instagram.
Petal returns Grande to her typical release pattern, which had been seen a drop come once every one or two years. That changed with the gap between 2020’s Positions and 2024’s Eternal Sunshine, during which she filmed the two-part Wicked adaptation.
It was that film’s “Defying Gravity” that earned Grande her third Grammy Award earlier this year. She had previously won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance in 2021 for her collaboration with Lady Gaga, “Rain on Me,” and Best Pop Vocal Album in 2019 for Sweetener.
And since the new album will be out by Aug. 30, it would qualify for the next Grammy Awards, in 2027.
