Netflix adding the colorful film adaptation of its popular children’s series in May 2026

When you open up Netflix, sometimes it can feel like there’s not much content for families to enjoy together. The most popular shows and movies on the streaming service are constantly the action-packed movies or the thrilling limited series that aren’t appropriate for the whole household to watch. That leaves kids to watch whichever Minions or Shrek movies are currently available.

But there’s actually a lot of great content for the littlest binge-watchers in your home, from Netflix’s excellent selection of original movies and series to the exciting big-screen hits that are acquired each month. In May 2026, one of Netflix’s most beloved original children’s series will be coming home in a different way, as the film adaptation makes its debut on the streamer for the first time.

Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie coming to Netflix in May

Netflix unveiled its list of new releases for May 2026, which previewed all of the upcoming new shows and movies set to premiere throughout the month, but a certain title was tucked away on the list. Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie releases on Friday, May 22, 2026 on Netflix, coming to the streamer following its theatrical run last fall and its initial streaming run on Peacock.

Even though the animated and live-action series Gabby’s Dollhouse is a Netflix original series, it’s also produced by DreamWorks Animation Television, which often collaborates with Universal Pictures for its film releases. Rather than premiering as a Netflix original movie, the show’s film adaptation was released theatrically by Universal Pictures, but still allowing for a release on Netflix.

Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie stars Laila Lockhart Kraner in the titular role of Gabby as she travels with her Grandma Gigi (Gloria Estefan) to Cat Francisco and finds herself defending her Gabby Cats and dollhouse from Vera (Kristen Wiig), a cat lady who’s the main villain of the movie. It’s the most exciting and larger-than-life adventure Gabby has had to go on yet.

Upon its release in September 2025, Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie earned mostly positive reception from critics and currently holds an 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences adored the movie even more, clearly meaning it was a big win with kids. The movie was also a minor box office hit, making over $80 million against its $32 million budget. Still, a sequel hasn’t been announced just yet.

Gabby’s Dollhouse first made its premiere on Netflix back in January 2021 and quickly became a sensation among young fans. To date, the series has produced 13 seasons, each of which only contain a limited amount of episodes, the minimum being five and the maximum being 10. A new season will likely arrive sometime this summer and keep the franchise’s winning streak alive!

Don’t miss Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie on Netflix beginning on May 22.
