Washington is no stranger to receiving lead actress Emmy nominations, thanks to her roles as a trio of strong women: Olivia Pope in Scandal (2013 and 2014), Anita Hill in Confirmation (2016), and Mia Warren in Little Fires Everywhere (2020).
Her other five career bids were for producing Confirmation, Live in Front of a Studio Audience (2020 and 2022), American Son (2020), and Little Fires Everywhere. She won an Emmy in 2020 for producing the All in the Family/Good Times episode of Live in Front of a Studio Audience.
In Imperfect Women, Washington plays yet another strong woman: Eleanor, who seems to have everything under control but quietly wrestles with her own relationship issues. As secrets unravel, her sharp observations place her directly into the story’s emotional center. She stars alongside Elisabeth Moss as Mary, Kate Mara as Nancy, Joel Kinnaman as Robert, and Corey Stoll as Howard.

“The title is really resonating with people, because we do feel this pressure in society and with social media to present this perfect version of ourselves,” Washington recently told Gold Derby. “I think another way of saying imperfect women is just saying real women, human women. … I hope for most of us, the stakes of our friendships are not quite as high, but we relate to the dynamics.”
Washington’s ascension in our Emmy odds comes as a pair of top contenders were removed from the Best Limited/Movie Actress category: Helen Mirren in The Thursday Murder Club (because the telefilm is not being submitted by Netflix), and Linda Cardellini in DTF St. Louis (because she’ll be competing in the supporting race).
The season finale of Imperfect Women premieres April 29 on Apple TV.
