Jordan Peele’s most polarizing horror movie is now a Netflix Top 10 hit

Him (2025) is officially having a second life, and it’s happening on Netflix!

The supernatural horror film, produced under Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions banner and directed by Justin Tipping, has surged into Netflix’s daily top 10 movies list shortly after arriving on the platform on April 19.

What makes its rise so notable isn’t just its streaming success, but the fact that it was one of the most divisive horror releases of 2025. It split audiences from the moment it hit theaters. Now, months after its initial theatrical release, the film is being rediscovered by a much wider audience on Netflix!

Him is a horror story disguised as a sports film

At first glance, Him looks like a traditional sports drama. The film centers on Cameron “Cam” Cade, a highly promising young quarterback who has dedicated his entire life to football. From childhood through his early career, Cam has been driven by one goal. That’s reaching the professional level and becoming one of the sport’s greats.

However, just as his NFL future begins to take shape, everything falls apart. During a brutal on-field moment, Cam suffers a serious head injury that threatens to end his career entirely. The injury leaves him physically shaken and mentally uncertain, and for the first time, his identity as an athlete is put into question.

But just as Cam begins to lose hope, he receives an unexpected offer. His childhood idol, legendary quarterback Isaiah White, invites him to a secluded desert training compound. Isaiah is considered one of the greatest players in football history, and then he presents Cam with a rare opportunity.

That’s to spend one week at his private facility, endure his intense training program, and potentially become his successor. But what begins as elite training quickly spirals into something far more disturbing.

The compound is isolated, surreal, and increasingly disorienting. While there, Cam finds himself pushed through brutal physical and psychological trials that blur the line between discipline and manipulation. Reality begins to fracture as he experiences hallucinations, paranoia, and moments of psychological collapse. And then the deeper he goes, the more he starts to question not only Isaiah’s intentions, but the very nature of success itself.

Up-and-coming actor Tyriq Withers stars in the leading role of Cam Cade, while Marlon Wayans takes on the role of Isaiah White. Both have ventured into the horror realm before, with Withers previously starring in I Know What You Did Last Summer and Wayans in the Scary Movie film series. Also in the Him cast are Julia Fox, Tim Heidecker, Jim Jefferies, Maurice Greene, Guapdad 4000, Tierra Whack, Naomi Grossman, and others.

While Peele is widely celebrated for films like Get Out and Us, not all of his associated projects have landed with the same universal acclaim. Him, now trending on Netflix, is one of them. Most professional critics didn’t like it overall, and it barely turned a profit at the box office. In fact, it currently holds a 31% Tomatometer score and a 56% Audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. This reflects its sharply divided reception among critics and viewers.

While some moviegoers praised Him as a bold, genre-bending experiment that pushes horror into new territory, others criticized it for being overly abstract, uneven in pacing, or intentionally opaque. That split reaction is exactly what makes it one of Peele’s most debated projects. But that hasn’t stopped a bunch of Netflix subscribers from streaming it. Him was added to the streaming platform on April 19, and just a day later, it ranked at the No. 7 spot on Netflix’s daily top 10 movie list.

As of April 21, it’s moved up to the No. 6 spot. That said, the horror flick’s quick rise up the Netflix charts seems to be less about universal acclaim and more about curiosity-driven viewing. Whether viewers end up loving it, hating it, or somewhere in between, Him is continuing to generate views on the streaming platform!
