Before you drive off a cliff in anticipation of the official 2026 Cannes Film Festival poster, have a look above and below.
The key art for the 79th edition of the Riviera fest is out and features Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon in character as the title duo on the set of Thelma & Louise, which premiered on the Croisette in May 1991. The badass black-and-white image sees the pair looking out from their droptop ’66 T-Bird, complete with pistol in Thelma’s back pocket.

Directed by Ridley Scott, the MGM film followed pals Thelma (Davis) and Louise (Sarandon), who hit the road after Louise shoots dead a man who attacked Thelma outside a bar. Cinema’s first female and feminist road movie plays out until the famous final scene at the Grand Canyon.

Thelma & Louise screened Out of Competition at Cannes, became a box office hit and went on to score six Oscar noms including Best Actress for both leads, winning Best Original Screenplay for Callie Khouri. Harvey Keitel, Michael Madsen and Christopher McDonald also starred, with a memorable breakout turn by Brad Pitt.
