The magic is officially back. After an appearance by Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman at CinemaCon for a witchy preview last week, Warner Bros. has finally delivered the goods and released the first trailer for Practical Magic 2, reuniting the Owens sisters nearly 28 years after their last pursuits in love and magic. Both actresses are reprising their roles as Sally and Gillian, who, 25 years later, are still fighting to break the multi-generational curse that has haunted their family. This time, though, it’s become more personal and urgent than ever, with Sally’s daughter, played by newcomer Joey King, discovering dark secrets about their past and developing her own powers that threaten their future.
Although the Owens family is brought back together under less-than-ideal circumstances, the teaser is more about hosting a happy reunion for the witches from Massachusetts, including not just the sisters, but their aunts Frances (Stockard Channing) and Jet (Dianne Wiest) Owens. Years after their battle against the evil spirit of Gillian’s abusive ex, they’re still dabbling in practical magic and living their best lives as close as ever. As always, though, doom befalling every man they love is still a hard sell in the Tinder bio, even with a devilishly handsome Lee Pace taking an interest in them. Sally and Gillian have a new focus, at least, reveling in helping Sally’s daughter with her own powers. However, the good vibes turn sinister as a darker force creeps into their lives once more, sending the family on a journey to the United Kingdom to finally end their curse from the very source of their power.
