The brand-new cast of Loups Garous Renaissance (from L to R) : Monica Bellucci, Fred Testot, Jamel Debbouze, Alexandra Roth, Alice Dufour et R. Jonathan Lambert. Cr : Netflix.

Netflix is doubling down on its time-traveling werewolf universe. A sequel to the 2024 French fantasy-comedy Family Pack (known locally as Loups-garous) is officially in production (since April 7th) under the title Family Pack 2: Renaissance. However, if you were expecting to see the original family return, you might be in for a surprise.

After the sequel was officially confirmed a few weeks ago, Pauline Dauvin said the cast would be all French major names, but she could not reveal them at the time. Well, as of April 20th, the wait is over, and the Renaissance cast is just as star-studded as the first one.

Who is the cast of Family Pack Renaissance?

The main cast will be featuring heavyweights Monica Bellucci and Jamel Debbouze. This is a casting coup, as neither of them have appeared yet in a Netflix production ; technically, Bellucci was a guest star in a few episodes of Call My Agent! which was a Netflix global original, but was never cast in one of their own projects. Debbouze has maintained his status as a French comedy superstar for the past 25 years, but had mostly remained faithful to Canal+. There, he hosted and produced popular unscripted format Jamel Comedy Club, and more recently the sitcom Le Terminal. After fellow superstars Gad Elmaleh and Dany Boon, it’s another big “get” for the French unit of Netflix.

Also in the cast is Fred Testot, an in-demand actor in both comedy and drama, which the French audience mostly knows for starting with Omar Sy, in the early 2000s, as comedy duo Omar & Fred. Even if he provided a voice for the latest Astérix miniseries by Alain Chabat, this is also his first Netflix project in front of the camera. Rounding out the supporting cast are two women which have also built a career in French film and television : Alexandra Roth (French Lover) and Alice Dufour (lead of TF1 period series Montmartre, which aired last fall). Finally, two well-known comedians are providing supporting roles : Alban Ivanov and R. Jonathan Lambert. Their characters have not been revealed, but François Uzan (Lupin, Flunked) is confirmed to come back as director and writer ; the producers (Radar Films) remain the same as the first movie.

What to Expect from Family Pack 2: Renaissance

The project has been known for a while, having been spotted by our friends at The Nerd Shepherd back in early February, but at Netflix’s request, we’ve been keeping quiet. Nevertheless, Netflix opted to include the announcement as part of a wide-ranging interview in the paywalled Ouest-France in March of 2026.

The sequel will propel the werewolf game—and its players—into the year 1515. Moving away from the 1497 setting of the first film, Family Pack 2: Renaissance drops its characters smack into the French Renaissance era, right under the rule of King François I.

In the exclusive interview with Ouest-France, Pauline Dauvin, Vice President of Netflix France in charge of local original content, confirmed the sequel and revealed the original cast would not be returning, cementing the franchise’s future as an anthology. “No, the cast will be completely new, very event-driven, and composed of top-tier French talents of very high notoriety,” she stated, keeping the exact names under wraps for now. Explaining the decision to greenlight the sequel and overhaul the cast, Dauvin added: “The franchise is very loved by families… What is great with this franchise is that it allows us to recreate a new universe each time by traveling through time.”

The Franck Dubosc-starring movie Family Pack had a relatively soft start over the 2024 holidays. It initially posted 41 million views and close to 65 million hours of global viewership in the last six months of the year. But it proved to be a genuine phenomenon in France. Based on the wildly popular social deduction board game Les Loups-Garous de Thiercelieux (which itself was adapted into a game show for premium channel Canal+ that posted viewership records), the film eventually found a massive global audience.

Ultimately, the first film reached the global Netflix Top 10 for five consecutive weeks (and returned again a few weeks later), hitting the Top 10 in 85 countries. It wrapped up its major run with 91.5 million viewing hours, translating to an impressive 58.1 million total views. This commercial success came despite a lukewarm critical reception, with the film currently holding a 5.5 on IMDb and a 38% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Given its long-tail success, it came as a bit of a surprise—but a welcome one—when casting announcements recently went out for a proposed sequel with the same production company, Radar Films.

When will Family Pack 2: Renaissance release on Netflix?

With cameras rolling since April 7, 2026, the film is in production for a few more weeks, likely until the start of summer. Given the extensive post-production and visual effects required for the fantasy setting, a late 2026 release date is highly unlikely. Fans of the French fantasy romp should expect Family Pack 2: Renaissance to drop on the streaming service sometime in early 2027.
