If you’ve been keeping an eye on Netflix’s Top 10 charts this week, you’ll already know that the brand-new original shark thriller Thrash is taking a massive bite out of the competition. Following its premiere last week, the film has been dominating the global charts. It shouldn’t be surprising. Under Paris did the exact same thing last year; people cannot get enough of shark disaster thrillers.

Dominating the top 10s since its first release, Thrash follows stranded residents who must survive rapidly rising waters swarming with ravenous sharks after a catastrophic hurricane. The movie was picked up by Netflix after its production wrapped last year.

Reviews for the Thrash weren’t the kindest (including our own), but that goes with the territory for genre-thrillers like this. Oscar contenders they are not. Of course, that didn’t stop the film from making the third-biggest opening weekend for Netflix in 2026, behind War Machine and The Rip, debuting with 54M hours watched, equating to 37.7M views.

Clearly sensing blood in the water, Netflix is doubling down on the deep-sea terror. To capitalize on the massive success of Thrash, the streaming service has just quietly dropped two more shark-centric thrillers into its library today, April 17th, 2026.

The Requin (2022)

Added to Netflix: April 17th, 2026
Director: Le Van Kiet
Cast: Alicia Silverstone, James Tupper, Deirdre O’Connell
Duration: 1hr 29m
Certificate: R (Language and some grisly images)

If the high-octane tension of Thrash left you wanting more stranded-at-sea anxiety, The Requin should be next on your watch list. Alicia Silverstone stars in this survival thriller that turns a dream getaway into an absolute nightmare.

Synopsis: A couple’s tropical vacation becomes a frantic fight for survival when a massive storm destroys their overwater resort and strands them at sea, surrounded by circling great white sharks.

Dark Tide (2012)

Added to Netflix: April 17th, 2026 (Streaming Again)
Director: John Stockwell
Cast: Halle Berry, Olivier Martinez, Ralph Brown, Mark Elderkin, Luke Tyler, Thoko Ntshinga
Duration: 1hr 53m
Certificate: PG-13 (Bloody shark attacks/disturbing images, and for language including sexual references)

Long-time Netflix subscribers might recognize this one! Dark Tide is streaming once again on the platform, albeit its last stint on the streamer was back in 2017. Oscar-winner Halle Berry leads this 2012 thriller that leans heavily into the psychology of swimming with apex predators.

Synopsis: “Shark whisperer” Kate has lost her magic after a fatal shark attack—but she reluctantly agrees to lead a thrill-seeking millionaire on a highly risky shark dive in the treacherous waters of “Shark Alley.”

New Genre For All Things Sharks

In addition to the new movie pickups, Netflix has also launched a new shark collection (genre code: 82794530 – “Shaaark!”) with highlights including the aforementioned Under Paris, plus docs like Our Oceans, Shark Whisperer, and more.

Also, don’t forget if you want to watch the OG shark thrillers, all three JAWS movies are currently on Netflix, but you don’t have long to watch as they’re all departing (once again) from Netflix on May 1st.

Are you still riding the high of Thrash, and will you be checking out The Requin or Dark Tide this weekend? Let us know in the comments down below! For more of the new arrivals on Netflix, keep it locked here on What’s on Netflix.
