It’s been a turbulent couple of months — heck, make that years — over at Paramount, which may explain why the studio’s 2026 Oscar cupboard appears to be a little bare. Now part of Skydance Media, the studio that previously gave us Best Picture winners like The Godfather and Forrest Gump arrived at CinemaCon with titles that don’t exactly scream prestige, including revivals of the Scary Movie and Jackass franchises and an all-new Street Fighter movie, a video game franchise that’s still waiting for its Super Mario Bros. Movie moment.
But hey, while those movies likely won’t earn Oscar votes, they could very easily make bank if the nostalgia winds are blowing in their direction. Paramount seems to be counting on commercial success allowing them to count their dollars while the other major studios chase statuettes. And the timing seems right for a Scary Movie comeback in particular, especially with stars Anna Faris and Regina Hall returning and the Wayans siblings back in full creative control of the horror parody franchise they created way back in 2000.
Other movies that Paramount are expected to tease include A Quiet Place Part III, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, and the James Cameron and Billie Eilish collab, Hit Me Hard and Soft. Follow along with Gold Derby’s updates from inside the room.
