The Atlanta Film Festival is gearing up for a milestone moment, unveiling a starry slate of special award recipients for its 50th anniversary celebration, set to run April 23 through May 3. Here’s everything to know about the fest as the stars get ready to head to Georgia.
WHO IS BEING HONORED
This year’s lineup includes producer Will Packer, Josh Brolin, Carrie Preston, Danielle Brooks, David Cross, Mckenna Grace, director and writer (and newly minted Rock & Roll Hall of Famer) RZA, producer Alex Orr and media executive Hilton Howell. Each is being honored for their contributions to film and television, as well as their broader impact on the creative community.
Packer will receive the Ossie Davis Award, while Brolin and Preston are set to receive IMAGE (Independent Media Artists of Georgia Etc.) Film Awards. Cross will be presented with the Rebel Award, and Orr will receive the inaugural Will Packer Award, a new honor recognizing achievements in producing.
Brooks will receive the New Mavericks Award following a screening of If I Go Will They Miss Me, while Grace will be honored with the Phoenix Award, which recognizes an individual who is rising to new heights, embracing a fresh chapter and/or a renewed momentum in their career.
OTHER EVENTS/SCREENINGS
The awards will be presented at the festival’s IMAGE Film Awards Gala on May 1. Special screenings and events will take place throughout the 11-day festival including a screening of Weapons with Brolin, a live conversation with Cross, and a screening of Stomp the Yard with Packer. On May 2, Preston, Scott Teems, and Ray McKinnon will be on hand for a screening of their 2009 film That Evening Sun.
