South Korean auteur Lee Chang-dong will receive the lifetime achievement award at this year’s Malaysia International Film Festival, the Kuala Lumpur event announced this week as it unveiled the program for its ninth edition, running July 18-25. Announcing the honor, MIFFest president Joanne Goh called Lee “a filmmaker whose work continues to resonate across cultures and generations through its honesty, compassion, and profound understanding of humanity,” adding that his films “remind us of cinema’s unique ability to inspire empathy, provoke reflection, and connect us through shared human experiences.” The Malaysian festival will feature a special tribute to Lee, including screenings…

92 Years Ago Today: Walt Disney Created One Of His Most Beloved Characters – A Look Back At Donald Duck
On this day in 1934, a short-tempered, sailor-suited duck with an almost incomprehensible voice waddled onto theater screens for the very first time. Ninety-two years later, Donald Fauntleroy Duck remains one of the most recognized and beloved animated characters in the history of cinema. You can find the Ultimate History of Donald Duck on Amazon HERE. The occasion for today’s anniversary is the premiere of The Wise Little Hen, a Disney Silly Symphonies cartoon that debuted in American cinemas on June 9, 1934. The short film, which runs approximately seven minutes, follows a mother hen who asks her barnyard neighbors…
Chase Infiniti may have only three acting credits to her name, but she’s more than made her mark with each. First came Apple TV’s limited series Presumed Innocent, then Paul Thomas Anderson’s Oscar- winning juggernaut One Battle After Another, which earned her multiple award nominations. And now there’s Hulu’s The Testaments, the followup to The Handmaid’s Tale where she stars as Agnes MacKenzie, one of the teenagers being raised in Gilead with little knowledge of the outside world — but simmering with a rebellious spirit. She’s back in the awards conversation — she just won the Gotham TV Award for lead performance…

Us Weekly has reached out to Jolie and Pitt for comment. “It’s unfortunate when a parent deliberately alienates their children from the other,” a source…
The most well-known franchise Vin Diesel is attached to is probably Fast and Furious, unless you want to count Guardians of the Galaxy, which he has a voice role in (albeit a humorously limited one). In any event, Fast and Furious has more movies that make up the overall series, started further back in time (2001, specifically), and also has Diesel at the center of things. He’s absent from 2 Fast 2 Furious, and only has a cameo in Tokyo Drift, but is in all the other main films (not the spin-off Hobbs & Shaw) as a central character. But…
Bonnie Schiffman Photography/Getty Images After “Twin Peaks” upended viewer expectations in the primetime TV landscape, the late, great David Lynch took a shot at doing it again — this time with sitcoms. Lynch was already talking up his next series in February 1991, while Season 2 of “Twin Peaks” was still airing. “We have a new show, a half hour show called ‘On the Air,'” he told David Letterman, “that we hope will be on the air. I’m shooting a pilot for that soon.” And so he did: “On the Air”…
In what may well be a preview of things to come this awards season, Toy Story 5, the latest installment in Disney/Pixar’s beloved 31-year-old animated film franchise, was the toast of Hollywood on Tuesday night at the Dolby Theatre, the home of the Oscars. A-listers ranging from the Duffer brothers to Teyana Taylor to Jimmy Kimmel (and their kids) convened for the world premiere of what proved to be a smart, funny and moving film about screens displacing toys in the lives of young children. And attendees of all ages were ecstatic when the film was followed by a surprise live…

Sara Dosa’s journey with her new film Time and Water began in 2019, when she read an essay by Andri Snaer Magnason titled “How Do You Say Goodbye to a Glacier?” As Dosa tells Gold Derby, the piece “just struck me as such a profound question for this time of tumult.” Published in The Guardian, the essay examined the melting of Iceland’s Okjökull (aka Ok) glacier not just from an environmental standpoint, but from a personal one. The historic site had special meaning for Magnason’s family, particularly his grandparents, who had been visiting it for decades. “I feel like so…
