It’s a sad day for animation fans. We’ve just learned that the beloved DreamWorks Animation series Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts is officially now scheduled to leave Netflix globally in June 2026.
Created by Radford Sechrist and developed by Bill Wolkoff, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts was a bright, energetic, and massively popular addition to Netflix’s animation slate throughout its multi-season run.
The series debuted its first season in January 2020, with two subsequent seasons following in rapid succession, wrapping up its 30-episode run in October 2020. Brought to life by DreamWorks Animation Television and the incredibly talented South Korean animation house Studio Mir (The Legend of Korra, Voltron: Legendary Defender), the show quickly garnered a passionate cult following.
Set in a vibrant, post-apocalyptic “Las Vistas” where mutated, sentient animals (known as “Mutes”) rule the surface, the story follows Kipo Oak, a sheltered girl from an underground burrow who is thrust onto the surface world. Along with a ragtag group of survivors—including a stoic girl wearing a wolf pelt, a happy-go-lucky boy, a mutant bug, and a four-eyed pig—Kipo searches for her father while trying to bring peace between humans and Mutes.
Aside from its iconic art style and heartfelt story about empathy and found family, the series is widely praised for its incredible soundtrack (composed by Daniel Rojas) and a phenomenal voice cast featuring Karen Fukuhara, Sydney Mikayla, Coy Stewart, Deon Cole, Dan Stevens, and Sterling K. Brown.
While the show was a little before Netflix’s expansion into the top 10s, we do know from the Netflix Engagement Reports that the series pulled in 47.1M hours watched between 2023 and 2025, equating to 11.8M views.
When is Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts leaving Netflix?
All three seasons (comprising 30 episodes) are currently scheduled to depart Netflix globally on June 26th, 2026.
We’ve been alerting you to this removal for quite some time, but now the official notice is posted on Netflix. We’ve covered all the DreamWorks Animation series removals here before, plus we covered it at the start of the year, covering over 100 Netflix Originals due to leave throughout 2026. As we always remind our readers, Netflix removals occur exactly at midnight Pacific Time on the listed date. That means your last full day to binge-watch the series will be June 25th, 2026.
Why is a “Netflix Original” leaving?
If you’re a long-time reader of What’s on Netflix, you’ll know that the “Netflix Original” branding doesn’t mean Netflix actually owns the property forever. In many cases, it simply means Netflix paid for the exclusive global streaming rights for a fixed period of time.
In this instance, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts is entirely owned by NBCUniversal (the parent company of DreamWorks Animation). Netflix struck a massive, multi-year output deal with DreamWorks back in the 2010s, which resulted in a golden era of animated originals like Voltron: Legendary Defender, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Trollhunters, and, of course, Kipo.
However, those licensing agreements come with expiration dates. Usually, DreamWorks titles depart Netflix around five to six years after the release of their final season. With Kipo’s third and final season dropping in late 2020, the clock has finally run out.
Where will Kipo stream next?
At the time of publishing, a new streaming home hasn’t been officially announced. However, because the show is owned by NBCUniversal, it is highly likely that Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts will eventually make its way over to Peacock in the United States.
Internationally, the rights might be sold to local broadcasters or other regional streaming services. If you want to guarantee you can watch the show in the future, it is currently available to purchase digitally on VOD platforms like Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video.
For now, you have just about a month left to enjoy one of the best animated series of the 2020s before it leaves Netflix for good.
