Some of the year’s most popular movies are new on VOD this week, including the blockbuster hit The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, and the Anne Hathaway-Michaela Coel psychological drama Mother Mary.
Hathaway – who is also starring in The Devil Wears Prada 2 and The Odyssey this year – stars as a global pop icon who is preparing for a massive comeback performance in Mother Mary. With just three days before her performance, she has a meltdown and reaches out to her former costume designer, Sam (Coel) with whom she shares a deep but contentious relationship, to help her design the perfect outfit for her concert. Their time together is healing but it’s also a strange and stylish ghost story – literally – as they exorcise demons from their past.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is, naturally, the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, reuniting the original film’s stars Jack Black (as Bowser), Chris Pratt (Mario), Charlie Day (Luigi) and Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), along with newbies Donald Glover as Yoshi, Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr. After less than two months in theaters, the film is now available on digital platforms to buy and rent this week.
Written and directed by Lee Cronin, the new imagining of the classic story of The Mummy is a gruesome tale about a young girl who reappears after having gone missing eight years earlier in Egypt. She is, yes, a mummy now, and also exhibiting demonic behavior that her parents are desperate to understand and control before the mummy destroys them. The film stars Jack Raynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy and Natalie Grace and is out now on digital platforms.
