Following the emotional release of his posthumous documentary interview, Famous Last Words, fans of the late Eric Dane will soon have another way to celebrate his television legacy. It’s been confirmed that all five seasons of the explosive TNT action-drama The Last Ship, starring Dane as the steadfast and commanding Captain Tom Chandler, are officially making their way to Netflix beginning June 22nd. To date, this is the first time the show has ever streamed on Netflix.

If you’ve been keeping an eye on our What’s New on Netflix section, you’ll know that the streaming giant has been scooping up a goldmine of licensed titles. The Last Ship is the latest high-profile addition, giving subscribers a massive 5-season 56-episode binge to kick off the summer and one of several coming throughout June 2026, with others including the hit Hulu comedy Shrill and classic and newer episodes of Beavis and Butt-Head.

What is The Last Ship about?

For those unfamiliar with the hit series, The Last Ship originally aired on TNT from 2014 to 2018. Produced by blockbuster veteran Michael Bay and loosely based on the 1988 novel by William Brinkley, the show kicks off with a terrifying premise.

A massive, global viral pandemic has suddenly wiped out over 80% of the world’s population. The crew of a lone, unaffected U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer—the fictional USS Nathan James—must navigate the chaotic, dangerous new post-apocalyptic world while racing against time to develop a cure and save humanity.

The series is anchored by Dane’s incredible leading performance, and he is joined by a stellar supporting cast that includes Rhona Mitra, Charles Parnell, Travis Van Winkle, Marissa Neitling, Christina Elmore, and Adam Baldwin.

As you may know, earlier this year, Dane was honored through Netflix’s deeply moving posthumous interview series, Famous Last Words, where he candidly reflected on his life, his career, and his battle with ALS. If you were moved by his raw, deeply personal final message to his family and fans, diving into his powerful performance in The Last Ship makes for a fitting way to celebrate his memory and incredible screen presence.

Netflix’s Continuing Warner Bros. Discovery Licensing Spree

The Last Ship is just the latest in a long string of Warner Bros. Discovery library titles finding a secondary streaming home on Netflix—a strategy that has been paying off in spades for both companies. This has notably cooled off since Netflix opted not to increase its bid for the company.

Earlier this year, Netflix US licensed the critically acclaimed HBO Max/TBS cult-hit comedy Search Party. We also recently broke the news that the beloved TNT crime procedural The Closer would stream on Netflix US for the very first time, along with a number of other titles from the network.

Of course, the world of streaming licensing is a constantly revolving door. While we are thrilled to be getting all five seasons of The Last Ship and The Closer, these additions come just after the unfortunate departure of another major TNT staple, Animal Kingdom, which recently left the platform. Expect this show to be available for only a year or two before it departs.

Will you be revisiting the action-packed world of The Last Ship to honor Eric Dane’s memory when it hits Netflix on June 22nd? Let us know in the comments down below!
