Dave Coulier Explains Weight Loss and Voice Changes After Throat Cancer Treatment, Says “The Prognosis Looks Good”

Dave Coulier is opening up about the health battle behind the noticeable changes fans have spotted in his appearance and voice.

The Full House star posted a candid video to Instagram
on Thursday after some followers commented that he looked thinner and sounded different than they remembered.

“Hi everyone, it’s me, Dave, and I haven’t posted in quite a while and the last time I did some of you said that I look differently and I sound differently, and I do,” Coulier said. “And what you’re seeing is the side effects of extensive radiation that I went through for carcinoma in my throat.”

The actor explained that the treatment has taken a major toll physically. Because he has been unable to eat solid food for several months, he said he has lost 45 pounds. The radiation has also affected his speech.

“I haven’t been able to eat solid food in months, and so I’ve lost 45 pounds, that’s what you’re seeing,” he continued. “And it’s affected my ability to speak; some of you have said that I sound differently. So you’re right on with what you’re seeing and what you’re hearing.”

Fortunately, Coulier also had some encouraging news to share.

After undergoing recent PET scans, he said “the prognosis looks good for both the carcinoma in my throat and the lymphoma, so we’re very pleased with all of that.”

Coulier first revealed in November 2024 that he had been diagnosed with stage 3 Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. A month later, he disclosed that doctors had also diagnosed him with p16 squamous carcinoma at the base of his tongue. The second diagnosis came roughly a year after he completed treatment for lymphoma.

Back in February, Coulier appeared on Good Morning America and announced that he was in remission after undergoing surgery for tongue cancer, along with additional treatment related to his lymphoma.

“It’s been a roller coaster ride for sure,” he said at the time. “I’m in remission with both cancers. And what a journey this has been.”

It’s a sobering update from the beloved sitcom star, but Coulier’s latest message offers the kind of hopeful ending fans were undoubtedly hoping to hear.
