Apple TV is revisiting one of Hollywood’s most chilling thrillers with a new limited series adaptation of Cape Fear. Led by Oscar winner Javier Bardem and Oscar nominee Amy Adams, the psychological horror drama expands the classic story into a modern, prestige television event — with legendary filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg behind the scenes.
Today, we got our best glimpse yet of the action courtesy of a 2-minute, 30-second trailer that sets the scene in a steamy coastal enclave and introduces Bardem’s terrifying take on iconic villain Max Cady as he sets his sights on Adams’ character, Anna Bowden. Watch below:
Here’s everything to know about the highly anticipated series.
What is Cape Fear about?
The limited series centers on attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden, whose lives are upended when Max Cady — the violent criminal they helped put behind bars — is released from prison and sets his sights on revenge. As Cady reenters their world, the situation escalates into a tense psychological battle that threatens to destroy their family and everything they’ve built.
Cape Fear is based on the novel The Executioners, which first inspired J. Lee Thompson’s 1962 film of the same name starring Robert Mitchum, Gregory Peck, and Polly Bergen, as well as the acclaimed 1991 remake directed by Scorsese, which starred Robert De Niro, Jessica Lange, and Nick Nolte.

Who is starring in Cape Fear?
The series is led by Javier Bardem, who stars as the menacing Max Cady, alongside Amy Adams as attorney Anna Bowden and Patrick Wilson as her husband, Tom Bowden. The ensemble cast also includes CCH Pounder, Joe Anders, Lily Collias, Jamie Hector, Malia Pyles, and Anna Baryshnikov.

Who’s behind the camera?
Cape Fear was created, showrun, and executive produced by Nick Antosca (The Act, A Friend of the Family). Academy Award winners Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg both serve as executive producers. Additional producers include Alex Hedlund for Eat The Cat and Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey alongside Spielberg for Amblin Television.
Stars Javier Bardem and Amy Adams also serve as executive producers. The pilot episode is directed by Oscar nominee Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game), who also executive produces.
When does Cape Fear premiere on Apple TV?
Cape Fear will make its global debut on June 5, with the first two episodes premiering that day. New installments of the 10-episode series will then roll out every Friday through July 31 on Apple TV.
