Beef season 2 star sets Netflix return with new series from Martin Scorsese

Following the triumphant return of dark comedy anthology series Beef this spring, one of the second season’s high-profile stars has already booked a return to Netflix in a big way. Between a new drama series that’s in the works from an Oscar winner and a exciting production deal, we’re about to see even more of Oscar Isaac on our Netflix watch list in the near future.

Netflix announced on May 6 that Beef season 2 star Oscar Isaac will lead a forthcoming and currently untitled Las Vegas-set drama series that’s in the works from executive producer Martin Scorsese. Isaac will also executive producer under his Mad Gene production company banner. But that’s not the only exciting news about Isaac’s collaboration with Netflix. Get more details below!

Oscar Isaac signs Netflix deal with new Las Vegas drama series

In addition to starring in and executive producing the eight-episode drama that’s been picked up to series, Oscar Isaac’s production company has also locked in a new creative partnership with Netflix. Mad Gene will have first-look rights on film and television projects on Netflix, potentially for Isaac to star in but also to produce. The first under this pact is the Las Vegas series that sounds enticing.

From Billions creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien, the untitled series takes place in present day Las Vegas in a hotel casino run by Robert “Bobby Red” Redman, who is played by Oscar Isaac. The series will take a closer look at the dangerous aspect of Sin City, which means there’s likely a crime element featured in these series that’s also likely sexy and mysterious.

Here’s how Netflix describes the series in the synosis shared in the press release:

“The hourlong drama is set in the high-stakes, sharp-elbowed present-day Las Vegas casino business, which is a modernized but still dangerous version of the legendary city. At the center of it all stands Robert ‘Bobby Red’ Redman, president of the hottest hotel casino in town, who has to make some long odds moves to try and secure his position and take more ground.”

Netflix hasn’t shared any additional details about the forthcoming series, including who will join Isaac in the cast or even any information on other characters. Deadline reports that the series will likely begin filming sometime this summer, which should mean the project is slated for a release in 2027. Hopefully by then, Netflix will have shared more casting news and the show’s official title.

Isaac’s new Netflix show and first-look deal with the streamer comes after two successful collaborations together. Last year’s film, Frankenstein, which starred Isaac as Dr. Victor Frankenstein, earned the actor a Golden Globe nomination. The actor headlined a stacked cast in Beef season 2 and the show will more than likely earn him and his co-stars some well-earned award nominations.

Before the untitled Las Vegas series premieres on Netflix, Isaac will be back on the streaming service later this year in the Julian Schnabel drama film In the Hand of Dante. (The movie also features Scorsese in the cast in one of the filmmaker’s rare acting performances.) After Frankenstein, Beef season, and In the Hand of Dante, we can’t wait to see what’s next for Isaac on Netflix!
