Netflix finally lands three-time Oscar winner for first limited series collaboration

If there’s one streaming service that we can always count on to have a new star-studded limited series to binge-watch, it’s Netflix. Sure, most streaming services these days have been grabbing major stars for both limited series and regular original series, but Netflix continues to be the leader in delivering the must-watch miniseries that inspires global conversation.

Netflix has been able to attract so many iconic, award-winning stars for its limited series, including the likes of Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, Colman Domingo, Toni Collette, Claire Danes, Jude Law, and Tessa Thompson. There’s been one major movie star, a three-time Academy Award winner, who has made limited appearance in television shows. None of them have been on Netflix—until now.

Meryl Streep set for Netflix limited series The Corrections

That’s right, Netflix finally scored Meryl Streep for a brand-new original limited series. The three-time Oscar winner, who has most recently made memorable small-screen appearances in HBO’s Big Little Lies and Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, will now make her first appearance in a Netflix show. She’s previously starred in the Netflix movies The Prom (2020) and Don’t Look Up (2021).

Streep will star in The Corrections, which Netflix has given a straight-to-series order, a new prestige limited series based on the novel of the same name by Jonathan Franzen. The series will be written by Franzen and directed by American Fiction director Cord Jefferson, who has also written on such shows as The Good Place, Succession, Watchmen, and It: Welcome to Derry.

The Corrections stars Streep as Enid, the matriarchy of a Midwestern family with three adrift adult children and many challenges facing them in the near future. In order to keep them all together and lift their spirits as life changes creep closer, Enid looks to plan the perfect holiday celebration for her family, considering that there’s a chance it could be their last opportunity to do so as a unit.

Here’s how Netflix describes the plot of The Corrections in its press release:

“The Corrections is a sharply comic portrait of a Midwestern family whose three unmoored adult siblings desperately resist their mother’s wish for one last Christmas together — each undone by the delusional ambitions that were supposed to save them from becoming their parents.”

The streamer shares more details about the series and its characters:

“Gary might be clinically depressed. Chip lost his job and is struggling professionally. Denise is potentially caught up in an affair. Alfred’s struggling with dementia. Amidst all their pain and many forks in the road, Enid is determined to deliver the best –– and potentially final — family Christmas.”

As of the show’s official order in April 2026, along with the announcement of Meryl Streep taking the leading role, additional casting announcements haven’t yet been made for Enid’s children Gary, Chip, and Denise and her husband Alfred. More news and updates will surely be on the way in the next few months as production prepares to begin, possibly even before the end of the year.

Considering the series takes place around the holidays, it would make sense for The Corrections to begin filming during the winter months in order to match the season onscreen, but more information about the production schedule will arrive soon. Don’t expect the series to premiere much before a predicted Fall 2027 release, again to match the holiday setting of the story.
