Running Point season 2 episode 3 pays tribute to Niko Mijailovic

The third episode of Running Point season 2 concluded on an unexpectedly touching note as the series included a tribute to a young Los Angele athlete who tragically passed away.

When Running Point season 2 episode 3, which is titled “Triangle of Badness,” ends and the credits begin rolling, the end card includes a dedication to the memory of someone who might not be familiar with much of the audience. As the dedication reads, “In loving memory of #6 Niko Mijailovic” along with a green heart underneath the words of dedication.

Niko Mijailovic isn’t an actor on the series or someone who worked behind the scenes. Mijailovic was a 15-year-old student at Campbell Hall in Los Angeles, California, who tragically passed away from Sudden Cardiac Arrest without warning last spring. His death was a tragedy to his community, his family, and fellow students and teammates.

His older sister Mila, who’s also an athlete playing volleyball, shared his story in an Instagram post and revealed her “why” for pushing forward as an athlete and an advocate for young athletes. Following her brother’s tragic passing, Mila has been raising awareness about Sudden Cardiac Arrest in young athletes and champions cardiac screenings as a preventative tool.

Mijailovic was a celebrated athlete at Campbell Hall, playing on the boys’ varsity volleyball team with the #6 jersey. In April 2025, the school held a volleyball team in his honor, writing on Instagram: “Niko was a true light within our community. Niko joined Campbell Hall in Kindergarten and grew into a beloved and thriving member of our varsity boys’ volleyball team. Beyond his incredible athletic talent, Niko was known for his quiet confidence, kind heart, and deep love for his friends and family.”

While Mijailovic doesn’t have a direct connection to Running Point, the series takes place in Los Angeles and centers in the world of athletics, as a comedy about basketball. He attended Campbell Hall, which is a prominent K-12 private school in Studio City, and it’s possible that some of the show’s cast and crew might have children who attend or attended the school and were touched by his loss.

Following his feath, Mijailovic was also honored by the cast of The Pitt in August 2025 with a post from cast member Lesley Boone featured fellow stars Noah Wyle, Katherine LaNasa, Patrick Ball, and Fiona Dourif holding up a green heart with Mijailovic’s photo. The HBO Max medical drama takes place in Pittsburgh but is filmed in Los Angeles and likely touched the cast and crew for the same reasons as the cast and crew of the Netflix comedy series.

It’s wonderful that Running Point shared this dedication to honor Niko Mijailovic and continued to spread the word about his story. Our thoughts are with Mijailovic’s family, friends, teammates, and community.
