With seven wins to her name, Allison Janney is an Emmys giant. The actress, who has the second-most awards of any female performer, is now set as the star of a TV movie debuting just as the eligibility window comes to a close.
Miss You, Love You will be a title to watch as we get closer and closer to Emmys season, so until it debuts on HBO, here’s everything you need to know.
The Cast
Joining Janney in the cast is Girls alum Andrew Rannells. The two stars feature in a series of first-look photos that the premium network just debuted.
Emmy nominee Bonnie Hunt, Office vet Oscar Nuñez, and Lisa Schurga round out the cast.
The Story
Here’s how the official logline describes the plot:
A blunt, grieving widow, Diane Patterson (Janney) is forced to plan her husband’s funeral with a total stranger: her estranged son’s assistant, Jamie Simms (Rannells). As they fumble through grief and their strange, darkly funny circumstances, buried secrets and long-held resentments surface, but their partnership becomes an unlikely conduit for connection, laughter, and healing for this mother and her unexpected surrogate son.
The Creative Team
Miss You, Love You is the latest effort from Academy Award winner Jim Rash, who most recently co-directed and co-wrote the Force Majeure remake, Downhill, with his longtime creative partner Nat Faxon.
The Release Date
Miss You, Love You will premiere on HBO and stream on HBO Max starting May 29 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
The Awards Odds
Currently sitting outside nomination range, Miss You, Love You certainly has some ground to make up, but as these first looks at Janney in the film debut and as the premiere draws closer, expect to hear more chatter about the seven-time winner possibly gunning to join Cloris Leachman and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the eight-timers club.
