Netflix cult drama Unchosen suddenly becomes a must-watch hit on the Top 10

For the most part, we can usually see the hits coming on Netflix. The biggest shows on the platform will be promoted weeks before their premieres, building up anticipation whether it’s a brand-new show or a new series premiere. But sometimes, Netflix originals can still take us totally by surprise and arrive without much promotion to a debut that hooks an audience right away, like Unchosen.

The British psychological thriller series Unchosen began streaming on Netflix on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, which diverges from the streaming service’s usual Thursday drops for new scripted content. Being so, viewers didn’t see the series coming, especially not so early in the week. But that didn’t stop the six-part thriller from making quite the splash upon its debut on the platform.

Unchosen debuts in the Top 10 on Netflix

Just one day after Unchosen’s premiere, the series debuted in the No. 5 position on the daily Top 10 most-popular shows ranking. Currently, the show ranks behind Beef, WWE RAW, Funny AF with Kevin Hart, and Trust Me: The False Prophet, though it’s expected to continue climbing toward the peak position as we get closer to the weekend and more people begin binge-watching.

The series’ sudden premiere unlocks an exciting new show for viewers to dive into during the week, and it’s quite the story to escape into. Unchosen takes place within a religious cult where Rosie (Molly Windsor) resides with her husband Adam (Asa Butterfield) and daughter. However, when she encounters Sam (Fra Fee), she wonders whether the Christian community is dangerous.

Unchosen comes from creator and writer Julie Gearey, and while the psychological thriller isn’t based on a book or any source material, the series was inspired by actual accounts of conservative religious groups and cults that sought to control and limit its members. In that regard, the show is loosely based on true events, but still fictionalizes real depictions of certain cult groups and behaviors.

The series contains six total episodes that are each between 40 and 50 minutes in length, making for a relatively quick binge-watch that could take anywhere from one sitting to a full weekend watch, that is if you’re willing to chunk up your viewing experience. That might be difficult with a series captivating and fully engrossing as Unchosen, but either, it’s a new must-watch sensation on Netflix.

Unchosen stars a familiar face from around Netflix. Sex Education star Asa Butterfield leads the cast as Adam, one of the prominent members of the religious community and the husband of Rosie. Molly Windsor stars as Rosie, and the actress has previously been seen in titles like The Runaways, She Said, The Unloved, Three Girls, Traces, and War of the Worlds.

Fra Fee rounds out the main trio as Sam, an escaped prisoner with the hopes of liberating Rosie, though his past also holds some mystery. Fee appeared in films and series such as Les Misérables, Hawkeye, Rebel Moon, Lost Boys and Fairies, and Prime Target. The cast also includes Aston McAuley, Alexa Davies, Lucy Black, Olivia Pickering, Siobhan Finneran, and Christopher Eccleston.

As if the synopsis of the series wasn’t warning enough, Unchosen has been given an age rating of TV-MA and has been designated for mature audiences only for its depictions of violence, sex, nudity, sexual violence, and language. Despite its early middling reception on Rotten Tomatoes, this is the next binge-watch for fans who can’t get enough of Netflix’s thriller limited series!
