Ruby Rose Recalls Night With Katy Perry in Resurfaced Essay

An article written by Ruby Rose has resurfaced and sheds some light on one of her nights out with Katy Perry.

“I spectacularly lost dignity (and keys) one night not too long ago. Remember when Katy Perry and I crashed the year 12 formal? I don’t,” Rose, 40, wrote in a 2011 essay for news.com.au. “I had been off the grog for 30 days — my first attempt at sobriety — and I was out partying with Katy. What I do remember thinking was: ‘I’ll have a drink tonight, I deserve one. I mean, what’s the worst that could happen?’”

According to Rose, she didn’t stop at one drink “or 10.” Before the end of the night, the actress wrote she was “vomiting on Katy’s foot.”

“What was worse was I don’t normally spew (I don’t know why, I just don’t), so clearly the universe wanted to punish me,” she wrote. “NOOOOOOTHING is good about a hangover. That annoying song by Akon, [‘Trouble’] — I love that I can imagine my life without ever having to wake up feeling like that again.”

Rose has been open about her sobriety journey over the years. In her essay, the Orange Is the New Black actress explained what propelled her to make a change in her drinking habits.

“The short answer: I threw up on Katy Perry. And that’s one of the reasons I’ve been off the grog now for almost 90 days,” she wrote at the time. “Before you jump to conclusions, nothing horrific happened, nor have I been hit with a DUI — but I just had enough, and it has been one of the best decisions of my life.”

The essay comes days after Rose accused Perry, 41, of sexual assault. In a series of Threads posts, the actress alleged that Perry “assaulted” her during a night out in Melbourne, Australia, nearly 20 years ago.

A former manager at the Australian nightclub where Ruby Rose claims Katy Perry sexually assaulted her 16 years ago has weighed in on the situation. The former boss of Melbourne’s Spice Market told the Herald Sun on Tuesday, April 14, that he remembered Perry, 41, and Rose, 40, arriving together at the hot spot on […]

It’s unclear whether Rose is specifically addressing the night of the alleged assault in her 2011 essay. Us Weekly has reached out to Rose’s team for comment.

“It has taken almost 2 decades to say this publicly,” Rose claimed in one post. “Though I am so grateful to have made it long enough to find my voice, it just shows how much of an impact trauma and sexual assault takes. Thank you for seeing me.”

Perry, for her part, denied the allegations, telling Us in a statement that Rose’s claims were “categorically false.”

“The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous reckless lies,” Perry’s rep said on Monday, April 13. “Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named.”

Victoria Police in Australia confirmed they are investigating Rose’s claims after a report was filed. Perry has not been charged with a crime.

If you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted, contact the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673).
