It’s been seven years since Disney released an Avengers movie, a Star Wars movie, and a Toy Story movie in the same 12-month span. Not coincidentally, 2019 was also the single most profitable year in Mouse House history as Endgame, The Rise of Skywalker, and Toy Story 4 (with a little help from Frozen 2) powered it to over $10 billion at the global box office.
In 2026, Disney is banking on the trio of Avengers: Doomsday, The Mandalorian and Grogu, and Toy Story 5 to power it to similar heights. The Jon Favreau-directed continuation/series finale of the Star Wars Disney+ show is first out of the gate on Memorial Day weekend, and will be a major focal point in the studio’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas with fresh footage and an appearance from the title characters.
Robert Downey Jr. is also anticipated to be on hand to promote his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this time as the villainous Doctor Doom instead of the heroically quippy Tony Stark. And Disney could raid its toy box to bring Tom Hanks and Tim Allen — the corporeal versions of Woody and Buzz Lightyear, respectively — to Vegas. Follow along with all of Gold Derby’s updates from inside the room.
