Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are back as the iconic witchy sisters in Practical Magic 2, which opened in movie theaters nationwide this weekend, landing the No. 1 spot at the box office.
This sequel comes nearly three decades after the Practical Magic movie, which was based on the 1995 novel of the same name by Alice Hoffman, first opened in theaters in 1998. The sequel film was directed by Susanne Bier, and written by Akiva Goldsman, Georgia Pritchett, and Kelly Marcel, who adapted the 2021 novel The Book of Magic by Alice Hoffman. The sequel takes place 25 years after the first film, and finds sisters Sally (Bullock) and Gillian (Kidman) Owens once again facing a family crisis that calls on their magic powers.
This time around, Sally is a mother of two daughters herself, Kylie (Joey King) and Antonia (Maisie Williams), who uncover the family secret and discover they might have a little—or a lot—of magic in them, too.
The Practical Magic 2 cast also includes Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing, who reprise their roles as eccentric aunts, as well as Lee Pace and Xolo Maridueña. As the weather gets cooler and the season gets spookier, now seems like a good time to go see Practical Magic 2 in theaters. But if you’d rather wait to watch it at home, then read on to find out when and where we expect to be able to watch Practical Magic 2 on streaming and what we know about the Practical Magic 2 digital release date.

Where to watch Practical Magic 2 movie on streaming:
Right now, Practical Magic 2 is only available to watch in a movie theater when it opens in theaters on Friday, September 11. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. It is not yet available to watch on streaming.
However, we do expect the Practical Magic 2 movie to be on streaming eventually. Practical Magic 2 will be released by Warner Bros., and therefore will be eventually streaming on HBO Max, the streaming service owned by Warner Bros.
When will Practical Magic 2 movie be on digital to buy and rent?
You might see Practical Magic 2 on digital around mid-September 2026.
Practical Magic 2 is being distributed by Warner Bros., and with some exceptions, most mid-budget WB movies like this tend to release on premium video-on-demand about one month after they open in theaters. For Practical Magic 2, that would be around mid-October 2026.
When will Practical Magic 2 be streaming on HBO Max?
While we don’t yet know the Practical Magic 2 HBO Max release date, you might see Practical Magic 2 streaming on HBO Max later this year, around late November or early December 2026.
All the new WB theatrical movies end up streaming on HBO Max, though the wait period has varied by title. Supergirl, for example, was released on digital about one month after opening in theaters, and began streaming on HBO Max about two-and-a-half months after it was released in theaters. If Practical Magic 2 follows a similar release pattern, you may see Practical Magic 2 on digital around mid-October 2026, and streaming on HBO Max around late November or early December 2026.
That said, perhaps WB will want to get Practical Magic 2 on HBO Max in time for Halloween, and will push for an earlier streaming release.
If you’re new to HBO Max, you can sign up for as low as $10.99/month with ads, but an ad-free subscription will cost $18.49/month.
If you want to stream even more and save a few bucks a month while you’re at it, we recommend subscribing to one of the discounted Disney+ Bundles with Hulu and HBO Max. With ads, the bundle costs $19.99/month and without ads, $32.99/month.
This is all speculation. The Warner Bros. home releases have varied by title. If you want to see Practical Magic 2 right away, your best is to catch the movie in theaters. And in the mean time, you can watch the first Practical Magic movie from 1998 streaming on HBO Max, free to anyone with an HBO Max subscription.
